Margarito's License Approved, Pacquiao Fight is On!

It's official, Antonio Margarito will face Manny Pacquiao for the vacant WBC 154-pound title on November 13 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Margarito's application for a boxing license in the state of Texas was approved, according to an official from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Last February, Margarito's license to box was revoked*by the California State Athletic Commission following a hand-wrapping scandal which took place before his fight with*Shane Mosley in January 2009.*Margarito's ability to apply for a new license began on February 11.

Last Wednesday, Margarito the CSAC turned down Margarito's application to obtain a license to box in the state of California. The Mexican boxer faxed over an application to Texas later that day. The Pacquiao-Margarito tour is expected to start next Tuesday in Los Angeles, followed by stops New York on September 1, and Dallas on September 2.

Slice to leave MMA to box in heavyweight class

Kimbo Slice, the viral video backyard-fighting sensation turned mixed martial artist, is gearing up for a foray into the sweet science.

"I feel like a baby all over again," said the 36-year-old Florida resident. "I'm thinking about this at night. I'm gonna be a problem in the heavyweight division. I'm going to be coming in with a bad demeanor. I want to see what it's like to break some ribs, break a jaw with one punch."

Slice said he wouldn't close the door on MMA and that he greatly enjoyed his tenure with the UFC, and appreciated the opportunity UFC chief Dana White gave him.

In a boxing division dominated by the cerebral, caution-first Klitschko brothers, Vitali and Wladimir, Shaw says that if his hunch is right, that time with strength and conditioning coach Darryl Hudson kicks Slice's cardio into a new zone, the fighter could be challenging for a title after six or so fights.

"He could easily be at the same level as guys the Klitschkos have been fighting," said Shaw, who gave a shout-out to son Jared, who turned him on to the much-downloaded backyard brawler several years ago. "Maybe I'm wrong, maybe he's coming to boxing too late, but I don't think so. He's not a beaten-up athlete. He's a natural, with that bob and weave like Mike Tyson."

Thanks Mega, I think Toney/Couture might be better than it looks on paper.

Re: 2010 Boxing discussion thread

I knew Toney would get beat. He wasn't even a very good heavyweight, let alone how was he going to go into mixed martial arts.

Pacquiao's Adviser: Manny Won't Hit Back at Mayweather

In your wildest imagination, can you even conceive of Manny Pacquiao answering Floyd Mayweather's verbal garbage with his own trash talking?

I think many of us would love to see the Pinoy Idol get down and dirty and return a volley of low verbal blows at the direction of the unbeaten American.

British tabloid News of The World has published a shocking video and photos, like the one found below, of Manchester superstar and former two time champion Ricky Hatton,*snorting several lines of *******.*Hatton*is the latest British star to get caught up in a scandal involving the ******* use of *******. Earlier this*year, Joe Calzaghe was busted by a British tabloid. They filmed Calzaghe, with a *************, attempting to obtain information pertaining to the*purchase of ******* and discussing his drug habits. The scandal with Hatton is less shocking, as Ricky is well known for his bad habits*and partying at all hours of the night. No information was provided on how the video was obtained or who did the filming or when it was taken.

Photos: Wladimir Klitschko Beats Peter Down in Germany

At the Commerzbank-Arena in*Frankfurt, Hessen, Germany, the domination continues. IBF/WBO/IBO and "universally recognized" undisputed heavyweight champion of the world Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, with 49 KOs, after all) impressively proved his overwhelming, lethal power with a tenth-round scary stoppage of "Nigerian Nightmare" Samuel Peter (34-4, 27 KOs) in a completely one-sided contest. Klitschko has also erased any doubts (if ever) about his superiority left from their first encounter in the fall of 2005, when Wladimir survived three knockdowns en route to a hard-fought decision victory.
Klitschko vs. Peter will air on ESPN on Sunday

Gamboa Beats Salido To Unify, Rios Batters Peterson]

Las Vegas, Nevada - In a featherweight unification bout at The Palms, Yuriorkis Gamboa (19-0, 15KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over Orlando Salido. Gamboa was quicker and better is almost every round. Gamboa suffered a flash knockdown in the eight round. He came back in the twelfth to send Salido down twice. On the second knockdown, Gamboa lost a point for hitting Salido while he was down. The scores were*116-109, 114-109 and 115-109.
This wasn't really a unification, and only Gamboa was eligible to win the IBF title

Hatton's ******* Habit Ousted By Irish Female Fighter

Boxing's week of shame and stupidity came to a sorrowful but blazing finish this week as British tabloid News Of The World had a Page One story plus video of Ricky Hatton knocking himself out with a booze and drug binge.

On the bright side, perhaps the popular Mancunian was angling for a **** endorsement deal.

In the video, Hatton does his human vacuum cleaner impression, "hoovering" seven lines of Bolivian Maching Powder into his nostrils.

Before Hatton, who earlier this week denied he has retired from the ring, lubricated himself before attending a*fighting event.

Hatton oiled up with 11 pints of Guinness (Irish beer), four vodkas, two glasses of wine and capped his alcoholic fest with some Sambuccas.

The tabloid's source on Hatton's escapade is Irish amateur boxer, Emma Bowe, a 29 year old Dublin resident who Hatton seems to have taken a fancy to.

She told the newspaper in the expose that: “I'm only talking about this because Ricky is a danger to himself. If he carries on like this he'll **** himself.

"I'm really, really worried for him, especially if he tries to make a comeback in the ring as he's hinted - he could have a heart ******.

"The inhaling of ******* took place in Bowe’s hotel room in Hatton’s home city.

Hatton, only 31, may have difficulty getting a British Boxing Board of Control license unless he can explain this adventure.

What a week, eh?

Floyd Mayweather puts shame in his game, British heavyweight pretender David Hayemaker likens his fight with Audley Harrison to “a gang ****” and now Hatton’s been busted by the tabloid snoops.

Earlier this year, a different British tabloid ran a video showing Welsh ring hero Joe Calzaghe*discussing his*use of*cociane.

Ricky Hatton is Devastated, Distraught Over ******* Low

Ricky Hatton's rep Max Clifford released a statement on behalf of the Manchester star, telling the press that Hatton is*"devastated and distraught" over Saturday's story that appeared in News of The World. The British tabloid published photos, along with a revealing video, which clearly shows Hatton in a bathroom*snorting several lines of [what is believed to be] *******. In the video, Hatton is cutting up lines of the white powded*with a credit card and then snorting it through a rolled up £20 note.

Hatton makes no excuses over the video.*Close ****** and friends*are hoping the*scandal will ***** Hatton to clean up his*well known lifestyle of partying until the late hours of the night.

"I have spoken to Ricky just half an hour ago, he is very upset and very subdued, very flat," said Clifford. "He feels he's let everybody that matters down badly, his friends, his ******, his fans and of course most of all himself, that he is, in his own words, he's been in a bad place for some time, probably before even his last fight and obviously he's really upset about what has happened but he totally takes responsibility, takes the blame, 'It's all down to me'.

"He just wants to let everybody know how he feels, he's got to sort himself out. I think it is fair to say, friends and ****** have been trying to warn him in recent times, for the last few months and now they are all hoping this situation will bring him to his senses. I think obviously everybody is hoping some good will come out of this. He feels devastated and we all hope this will be the wake-up call."

Wladimir Klitschko To Fight on December 11, Says Boente

Manager Bernd Boente told the Golzka paper that IBF/IBO/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko will defend his titles on December 11. Klitschko returned on Saturday in Frankfurt, Germany and made an impressive defense of the titles by knocking out Samuel Peter in the tenth round.

Boente is negotiating with German television network RTL to stage Klitschko's next fight on the previously mentioned the December date. RTL has set aside December 11. The opponent will be someone from the top ten.

Boente said several names will be considered but Olympic gold medal winner Alexander Povetkin will not be one of them. Povetkin was the original opponent for last Saturday's event*before the Klitschko camp replaced him with Peter. The Russian fighter refused to sign a contract after the two camps took part in a mandatory IBF purse bid. It was the second time a Klitschko-Povetkin fight failed to take place.

Khan-Maidana bout finally slated for December

LOS ANGELES -- In a year in which so many fights that boxing fans have wanted to see have not been made -- Manny Pacquiao against Floyd Mayweather, for example -- one of them is being delivered.

Junior welterweight titlist Amir Khan and interim titlist Marcos Maidana have reached agreement to meet on Dec. 11, Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, who promotes both of them, told ESPN.com Wednesday. The HBO-televised fight will take place at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

"We came to an agreement [Tuesday] night. Khan is on board. Maidana is on board and I am finalizing everything with Mandalay Bay," Schaefer said outside of Staples Center during a news conference promoting Saturday night's Shane Mosley-Sergio Mora HBO PPV card.

Khan, who will be making his third defense, will get at least $1.5 million, plus revenue from the television rights in the United Kingdom. Maidana will earn $550,000 plus an undisclosed bump if he wins the fight.

Khan (23-1, 17 KOs), 23, won an Olympic silver medal in 2004. In 2009, Khan claimed a 140-pound world title by easily out-boxing Andriy Kotelnik, who had handed Maidana his only loss, a decision, in the fight before losing the title to Khan.

Maidana (29-1, 27 KOs), 27, stopped Victor Ortiz in the sixth round in June 2009 to claim the interim belt. He's defended it three times, including a difficult decision win against former titlist DeMarcus "Chop Chop" Corley in Argentina on Aug. 28.

Hopkins finalizes Dec. 18 fight against Pascal

LOS ANGELES -- Former light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins signed a contract Thursday to finalize his Dec. 18 fight against reigning champ Jean Pascal.

Pascal-Hopkins, which had been agreed to earlier this month, will take place in Quebec City and mark Hopkins' return to Showtime. Schaefer said he has finalized a deal for the network to produce and distribute the fight as a Showtime pay-per-view.

Hopkins fought on Showtime several times earlier in his career. He won his first middleweight belt on the network when he knocked out Segundo Mercado in the seventh round in 1995 and made several early defenses on Showtime during a reign that lasted a division-record 20 defenses. But Hopkins hasn't fought on Showtime since stopping Robert Allen in their second fight in a 1999 middleweight title defense. Not long after that, Hopkins began fighting regularly on HBO, his television home for the past decade.

Pascal (26-1, 16 KOs) is coming off a major upset when he won an 11th-round technical decision against Chad Dawson on Aug. 14 on in Montreal (and on HBO) to retain his alphabet light heavyweight title and claim the division's lineal title. Although he owes Dawson a contractual rematch, their deal allows him to take an interim bout.

Hopkins (51-5-1, 32 KOs), who lost the light heavyweight title on a split decision to Joe Calzaghe in 2008, will turn 46 less than a month after he faces the 27-year-old Pascal. But Hopkins said he is motivated to become one of the rare fighters in boxing history to win a major title fight in his 40s.

Re: 2010 Boxing discussion thread

Khan - Maidana is going to be a good fight, initially I though Khan might struggle but he has a chance judging on Khan's recent performances and Maidana's last outing against Corley. Should be a good close fight!

Photos/Weights: Shane Mosley 154, Sergio Mora 153.6

The weights are in for Saturday's big card at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California to celebrate 200 years of Mexican independence. In the main event, former champions Shane Mosley and Sergio Mora will collide. Shane Mosley easily made the division limit at 154. Mora was three pounds over the*junior middleweight limit at 157-pounds.

Mora returned later to make weight, 153.6-pounds, but he is still going to lose 20% of his purse, which is going to Mosley.

Junior middleweight prospect Saul "Canelo" Alvarez weighed in at 150.5-pounds. Former welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir was 153.4-pounds.

A over-the-weight contest between junior welterweight contenders. One fighter will lose their nickname. "Vicious" Victor Ortiz came in at 142-pounds, and "Vicious" Vivian Harris was 143.5, 1.5-pounds over the agreed upon weight of 142. He had to lose the pound and a half and came back later at 142.

Featherweights Antonio Escalante and Daniel Ponce De Leon will open up the pay-per-view event. Escalante*came in at the division limit,*126-pounds. Ponce De Leon was close to it as well, at 125.8.
