Best Guitar Solo

Wintersun - Winter Madness. No, it doesn't have to be the most technically impressive to be the best, but this solo happens to be both.

I'd say this, or Necrophagist's Diminished to B.

Randy's first solo in Mr. Crowley STILL gives me chills whenever I hear it.

Honestly though, I'd have to say the solo that fit the song the best would have to be Desert Rose by the one and only Eric Johnson.

My top 5 guitar solos would be as follows:

"Machine Gun" Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsies

"Super Stupid" Funkadelic featuring Eddie Hazel

"Sympathy for the Devil" The Rolling Stones featuring Keith Richards

"I Heard Her Call My Name" The Velvet Underground featuring Lou Reed

"Highway Star" Deep Purple featuring Ritchie Blackmore (off Made In Japan album)

A bunch of other guitar solos would make the honorable mention list, but too many iconic solos to name.

Almost anything by John Petrucci, and I absolutely LOVE the solo in 'Afterlife' by Avenged Sevenfold (A7X).

Also, it may not be a guitar solo but this is by far one of the most amazing instrumental pieces I have ever heard, it's called 'Ocean' by John Butler Trio - http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=6VAkOhXIsI0

Maybe from a little different genre, jazzy pop fusion...
Jerry Garcia from "Touch of Grey," or the one in Edie Brickel's "What I am is what I am" (probably not the actual song title, but I think you know the one)

NICE!!!! finally a fan of euro death metal. only ashes remain is my favorite solo by them. but the whole epitaph cd is amazing

Haha, yeah, total metal head here in case you missed the avatar.

Looking back at it, an insane set of solos would have to go to Death. The solos in Trapped in a Corner are ridiculously awesome. Andy LaRocque and Chuck Schuldiner ripping shit up like usual.
