Best Guitar Solo

OK, yet another favourite thread ;)

What in your opinion is the best guitar solo ever? There were/are so many great guitarists in the rock world, so would be hard to choose one.

I would have to go for Freebird by Lynard Skynard. It's such a fantastic piece of guitar playing.

1. Freebird - Lynard Skynard
2. Hotel California - The Eagles
3. November Rain - Guns n Roses
4. The Chain - Fleetwood Mac
5. Stagefright - Def Leppard

I can't really think of a number 1. it all depends on what mood I'm in. sometimes even the most simple solo could be the best, it all depends on how it fits into the song.

Some of lightning's Favs.

Deep Purple -Child in time-----Live :)

Great choice and hard to beat altho Jimmy Page's LIVE ONLY solo on stairway to heaven off the Song Remains The same album. It is cliched and it is my most hated Zep song but nevertheless a very good solo.

Also some very nice work from Randy Rhodes on his tribute album from Ozzy.

HOWEVER, my favourite guitar solo was Mark Knopfler live on Telegraph Road from Alchemy album!!!!

Any solo by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, Eddie Van Halen ("Eruption," for example), or Robert Smith of The Cure does it for me (of course there are others as well). All different styles, I know. I'm not a big guitar rock fan, but those solos and the music styles are cool. Rock on, Beavis! LOL :banger:

Here are my five favourite guitar solos (in no particular order)

The Final Cut - Pink Floyd
Kill The King - Rainbow
AC/DC - What Do You Do For Money Honey
Guns N' Roses - Locomotive
Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile

That's exactly what I'm thinking, too.
My favourite right at the moment:

Santana - Samba Pa Ti

:hatsoff: Jackson

Pink Floyd - Time, and really alot of David Gilmour solos.
Queen - Brighton Rock, Brian May is an awesome player.

IMo the best guitar solos dont have to be the most technical,

eg, paint it black - the rolling stones
boys dont cry - the cure

then there are the technical masters of course

guns n roses - welcome to the jungle
and anything by dave gilmour or hendrix

Hard to argue against the likes of Hendrix or Gilmour, many of whose solos are rock classics. My all time fav, however, is by Eric Clapton on the Beatles' While My Guitar Gently Weeps. I think his guitar actually does weep in that song. :)

Good call there, GH was a guitar genius

I love the solo in "Photograph" by Def Leppard, which also happens to be my all time favorite song.
