Automatic or Manual transmission?

Thats what I cant stand about these new sports cars, their making them for everyone to drive.

I just find it weird to see a Lambo that is automatic.

Technically,they aren't autos,but they might as well be.Paddle shift is a joke,and is essentially an automatic because,if I'm not mistaken,there isn't a clutch to be pressed.

I really hate it when I see a 40-50 year old woman driving a Corvette that you know is an automatic.Aren't they supposed to be "sports" cars and not just "cruisin'" cars?

It's not really driving unless it's a stick.:D

Agreed.It's like riding around in a go-cart.

I will say though, even though I love driving stick and wouldn't drive anything else, some cars just don't really need to be stick, like a Hearse or an ice cream truck.

I'll echo the sentiment that another poster had.I believe that every single driver that takes driver's ed should be taught on a manual trans. If a kid isn't good enough to drive stick and fails the course, wouldn't that be better than giving a license to anyone who can just step on the gas pedal and doesn't really know anything else?

Imo,having to control an automobile with all four limbs make you pay more attention to what is actually going on in front of you on the road.It keeps you from being lazy behind the wheel,so you have to maintain your focus not just on what you are doing, but also to what other idiots on the road are doing as well.

I would be willing to bet anything that if it became mandatory that all student that take high school driver's ed be required to learn on a manual transmission car, teen driving accidents would decrease by a sizable amount. But of course the insurance companies would try to find a way to prevent that from ever happening, but that's for another thread I guess.

If there is one thing that I love, its seeing a chick who can drive a stick :lovecoupl

Lately Ive been driving like a chick... my car is all banged up, been lazy on the clutch, and backing into shit. :ban:

You know, for some reason,a woman who can drive stick gets extra "special" points from me.

Fuck that,I want my final ride to be in something like this

...with a 421 Tri-power,and a 4-speed.

I'm not a numbers man, it's all about feel. Shifting my own gears and having that left foot in full coordination is why I'll remain a manual die-hard.
I drove my friend's 2005 BMW M5 and I didn't feel in-synch with the car at all. Sure 500hp is fantastic but fuck me trying to drive it smoothly.

I have my 1st automatic since high school, not a fan! A 6 speed manual will be my next car!

Since I don't live in America , aren't most cars with an automatic transmission in The US? And when you go to a driving school , don't they teach you how to drive in an automatic transmission car?

We have allot of models available with a manual, not as much as Europe though. Yes, most people learn on a auto in driving school. My Dad taught me a manual back in the day. I think it makes you a better driver to some degree.

Stick shift is more fun, but it sucks shifting during traffic.

It always interesting though, when going to drive an automatic and reaching for the clutch :1orglaugh

I'm so old that I took my first driving test in a 1954 Plymouth with three on the tree manual. I failed because I killed the car twice during the test. Learning on an automatic is easier(one less thing to worry about) but now I prefer a manual for my fun cars and an automatic for the regular day to day drivers that are just basic transportation.

Its so funny when I have to drive my drunk friends home with their automatic cars. I get in, and immediately wonder where the hell is the clutch? LOL. Its so weird when your left leg doesnt have to do any work.

It sucks ass parallel parking on a hill with a stick, but other than that I prefer manual.

I learned on a manual, but I haven't driven one since I was 17. If I tried driving one now I would stall the shit out of it.

Yay, I get extra special points :nanner:

It's actually more common than not to drive a car with a manual transmission in Europe especially in the Netherlands where something like 90% of the people drive a manual.

High-end performance sports cars like Ferraris, Lambos & the like should never even be offered in a manual. If you can't drive a stick, you shouldn't be driving that car. I saw a show (Rides maybe) where one of these damn piece of shit rappers bought a Ferrari (or another performance auto) and paid an exorbitant amount of money to get it changed from a stick to a manual. Why??? Learn to drive a stick. It's not vary difficult.

I'd be extremely surprised if Ferrari or Lamborghini would ever consider such a request no matter how much money you tried to pay. I'm fairly certain Porsche would never.

Such a request is almost the equivalent of asking one of the worlds top chefs to add ketchup or steak sauce to one of their prized dishes. Some things are not about the money.

It's horses for courses. In stop start traffic auto wins hands down , otherwise I prefer manual.Perhaps this is because I learnt in manual and drove them for 20 years before owning an automatic. I found it wasn't changing when I would have done on manual and changed when I wouldn't have done. Also it can't anticipate and have you in the right gear for a manoevre.

Do you mean High-end performance sports cars like Ferraris, Lambos & the like should never even be offered in a automatic???

Yep...sorry for that. Mind was going faster than the fingers can type. Thanks.
