Do you drive automatic or stick?

I had a 5-Speed Mustang that I'd leave the keys in the ignition, windows down, to run into the liquor store on Friday nights.

In downtown Baltimore.

Never had an issue.

It's a good thing it is called a Mustang and not a Colt.

Just sayin'

I taught myself to drive a stick in a '78 K-5 Blazer with a granny gear.

I haven't heard the term "granny gear" in a long time.

An old chevy van I believe was a column shift vehicle.
The first 35years of driving a stick blew out my knee I believe.
very harmful in traffic.

I learned how to drive in a Datsun 210. My parents insisted all the kids in my family learn how to drive with a manual transmission so that later on while driving automatic we wouldn't be distracted. Worked pretty good.

Driving on a stick is the default situation here in The Netherlands.

When you take driving lessons you will not even be asked what you prefer, stick it is.
If you want to use automatic you have to request it and when you get your drivers license you are not allowed to drive a car on a stick.

Same here in the UK. Automatics are available but they tend to be left for women that can't pass their driving test using a manual. I've only ever driven an automatic once and that was in the US as it's all I could get as a hire car. Wasn't that impressed.

Elwood: Agreed. My Mustang SVT Cobra does 0-60 in under 5 seconds - even from a stand-still / not dropping the clutch while revving. Only 4-banger that MIGHT give me a run would be a Subaru WRX STi, or Mitsubishi Evo.

I also really loved seeing men in giant heavy cars, revving like they were going to beat feet off of a red light, and then leaving them behind with little effort, because when your 4-banger car weighs nothing, no V-8 takes off as fast as you do.
Depends on the car - and the driver.
Those "men" obviously didn't know what they were doing.

My STI is quick as fuck off the line but for me the 4 banger advantage is corners I leave all those heavy V-8's in the dust.

I think mine might. It's got more HP, lower curb weight and more torque than a Mitsubishi Evo. dat twin turbo woosh. and I can drive it. though having an automatic in a race off the line is a definite advantage.

I bought that 2015 mustang for the novelty - the 50th anniversary and a 4 cyl. turbo-charged engine. heresy. fake engine noises are actually piped in over the speakers lol.

when you're driving around town it feels like you're driving around in a 4 cyl. coupe like a honda civic. But the moment you seriously accelerate and hit that RPM threshold it literally pushes you back in the seat. that woosh. I've contemplated trading it in because I miss the actual growl of a V-6 or the rumble of a V-8. But this is the future and stuff.

Driven manual most of my driving days, but had a Lexus GS300 for 12 years which was auto (no option of manual).
Currently have a manual Toyota GT86 (aka Scion FRS/Subaru BRZ) which is a fun car to drive. Not fantastically quick but still manages a touch of wheelspin changing from 2nd to 3rd if you push it.
I don't mind an automatic on occasion (my wife has auto) but prefer manual.

i have both types of cars in posession, but i prefer manual, changing gears is a special feeling
