Ahhh...the good ol' U.S. of A. Something that's people have probably become the most selfish, Darwinistic, cutthroat country in the democratic first world in modern times. Soon we might have to have to add increasingly nihilistic and maybe sociopathic tendencies to that list also.
Yet we won't hesitate to pat ourselves on the back (We are really REALLY good at doing that.), think we are better than everybody else in the world, push our corrupt ways onto everybody else why using everybody else's corruption for our own benefits, and continue in the belief that the American way of life and economic system is inherently better than everyplace else. A gigantic portion of our population also likes to espouse the moral and ethical superiority over every other place and claim the high ground in those issues even though we are now so far from that as to be laughable. We went from a nation that believed in liberties to preserves the inherent rights of all people because it was the right thing to do to a nation that believes in liberty for the purpose be being able to better screw over others and get ahead.
And yet...there are a gigantic portion of the population that still wonders much of the rest of the world, even much of the people in countries that make up our allies, despise us.
You know what I would like to see? Those type of people actually admit that they don't give a damn about anybody else but themselves, they don't give a damn about anybody rights (that's just an convenient and false excuse for them). I want them to admit that they really don't give a damn about any religion or moral or ethical standard. They don't care about their society, their neighbors, or their country. I would like to hear them just face up to what they really are and shout it out. I would like to hear them say that they aren't good people, they don't care about being a good person and when it comes down to it maybe never did, and that they are just a selfish bastard that's looking out for themselves first and foremost.
At least on some level I can give that person the very tiniest microscopic iota of respect over people that pretend like they are decent, but act the like those people. At least they can look themselves in the mirror and face up to what they are, even if it is something putrid. At least they haven't built their entire lives and world view on a premise they themselves don't even truly believe. At least they haven't deluded themselves into believing they are something they are not.
