Do the British still consider us Americans as the colonists?

Not really, not sure many Brits even know we 'owned' America, in fact I don't recall the empire ever being taught in schools, shame because there was also good with the bad from that period which is shown by the strength on The Commonwealth and the love for Queen Elizabeth II from many people from many commonwealth countries. ps I saw the Olympic Flame today although getting up at 7am on a sunday is not something I could do on a regular basis!

Sooner or later America will have to come back into the British fold, become a part of the
British Empire once again... you need structure, organization, history and tradition
it will be like returning to your mother country.

I used to think the same thing but wouldn't work in reality, too many religious nut jobs (descended from other religious nut jobs) would unsettle what I believe we have is a fairly agnostic society here, then you got all those right wing Hitler loving nutters who make the EDL look like a a bunch of pacifists not to mention the Mexicans who would bring drug cartels to this country that we wouldn't have the resources to fight. I also doubt the 36 million Irish Americans would want to be under British rule again, imagine terror groups like the Real IRA having a pool of 36 million people to recruit from! Shame because we could have really sorted America out.

I hope that's not what Americans are taught over there! The reality was Britain with no allies fighting not only the Americans but also the French, Spanish and Dutch so they were never going to win a war with so many fronts, especially with only 8000 troops available to cover an area that stretched from northern Canada to Florida and reinforcements either taking too long to come or needed on European battlefields. We gained a little revenge when we burnt down The White House so it wasn't all bad!

Well it's still being taught that Columbus "discovered' America, so don't be too suprised if it is (had a tough time deprogrammimg my niece on that one). :)
Do you look at us in disdain for drinking beer ice cold or is that a myth?

Not being a drinker I'm not sure but it seems like a myth to me, guess some other Brits on here could answer that one for you

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.

Assuming you've watched Downton Abbey, can you instantly pick out the accents and tell where each of the characters is supposed to be from? I've read that the actors actually put a lot of time into that and I was just curious as to how well a native speaker thinks they've done. They're doing something, because in interviews I've seen several of them sound quite different from the characters they play.

iTS the French who are really to blame, I dont think the Rebels would have succeeded without
French help... massive arms shipments and navy back up too.
The French King ( Marie Antoinette's hubby ) was reckless in his spending and aid and as a result
France was in a huge financial mess that eventually led to the French Revolution ... King Louis and his wife were imprisoned and eventually beheaded... ( kind of payback for playing with fire over in America )

Where has Heyfellas been?

When will mrtrebus return?

Hopefully Heyfellas will return.

It's sort of touch & go for Trebus though. He got a guest role on Game of Thrones and asked Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) if he could touch her dragon eggs. I guess she took it wrong and beat Trebus into senseless coma with Peter Dinklage. It might sound amusing for a small girl to use a dwarf to beat a grown man silly. But it really isn't. :nono:

It's a myth.
There is a big difference in the type of beer and whether it should be drunk cold or un-refrigerated.
Lagers should be drunk cold as they are foul otherwise.
Beers (ales) should be drunk at room temperature (or just below) as this is what brings out the flavour. Cold ale tends to lose its taste.
Stouts (e.g. Guinness) can be either. I prefer cold, personally.

I must be the other one
