I hate to trot out the 'ol line..."It's the economy, stupid"....

I already did.

The problem is that people don't see it that way. They're too imersed in their lives and don't follow what's going on leaving that up to what they believe are greater more knowledgeable minds than themselves.

People vote on who has the best smile.

""It's a good budget," Bush said after meeting with his Cabinet."
Good post Negator.

This is the 1st few paragraghs from the link. His proposal is just his same old crap.More for the defense budget and less to help the population of the country most vunerable and most needy. The good news is it will be prevented from happening most likely by congress.Words cannot express how despicable he and his supporters are in these regards IMO.

"WASHINGTON -- President Bush unveiled a $3.1-trillion budget today that would boost military spending and trim health benefits for retirees. The proposal was immediately tagged by Democrats as "irresponsible."

The first spending plan in history to top $3 trillion would freeze or eliminate many domestic spending programs yet still rack up a $407-billion deficit for fiscal 2009, which begins Oct. 1. The Pentagon is the only department for which Bush proposes a significant increase; its budget would grow 7.5% to $515 billion.

"It's a good budget," Bush said after meeting with his Cabinet. "It's a budget that achieves some important objectives. One, it understands our top priority is to defend our country, so we fund our military as well as fund the homeland security."

Because Bush is leaving office in a year, his budget proposal is largely an academic exercise. The Democratic-controlled Congress has responsibility for proposing and passing budget bills, and it's unlikely to adopt his priorities.

The plan's significance is mostly political. Bush's proposal seeks to codify the policies he considers his legacies as president, namely the tax cuts he won in 2001 and 2003; significant increases in military spending; and a few education programs, including his No Child Left Behind legislation.

For Democrats, the Bush budget provides a summary of the policies of his administration they find most egregious: the war in Iraq, tax cuts that worsened the federal deficit, and the squeezing of social programs such as Social Security and Medicare."

MAybe somewhere in that mess is a recipe for how to cook a lame duck?

This thing will be tossed in the trashcan faster then W. can spell "irrelevant"...

Absolute insanity. Coming on ABC news now.

Maybe the scheme is take over the world with a big military, and kick the crap out of everyone who doesn't like it. They did that with the indians.

Then they don't have to pay their debts.

Our attitudes/handling with the Indians probably deserves its own thread. What kind of "status" do they have within American society today? Let's see. We want you to be "out of sight," "tucked away on a reservation," where you can deal with your own problems. We're sorry that you people feel so disillusioned and "cut off" from contemporary America that depression, suicide, obesity and alcoholic rates are HUGE compared to "normal levels".:dunno:

But now, times have changed. A few tribes decided to erect giant gambling centers, got filthy rich and now are a revenue source with which the California Governor, no matter who he is, makes an annual pilgrimage to Indian HQ to beg for money.

Is capitalizing on "sins" the best thing for Native Americans? Is it perhaps better for Native Americans if they come off of the reservations and assimilate within America?

That makes me think of something I have heard some blacks have said."Keep the apologies give us some casino's".

"President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao and their team of economic policy-makers find themselves caught between the goals of their reform program and their need to step in to moderate prices and ward off the spectre of social unrest that has haunted every generation of China's Communist rulers."

All over the country that is. Indian casinos were a big success. I've never been in one, but if they are free of taxes, they can increase the odds to win, to attract more business. In some states, they wanted to go back on the deal and start charging them tax. Figures. :nono:

"Wake up, America! We’re on the brink of a financial meltdown. I.O.U.S.A. boldly examines the rapidly growing national debt and its consequences for the United States and its citizens. As the Baby Boomer generation prepares to retire, will there even be any Social Security benefits left to collect? Burdened with an ever-expanding government and military, increased international competition, overextended entitlement programs, and debts to foreign countries that are becoming impossible to honor, America must mend its spendthrift ways or face an economic disaster of epic proportions."

I thought that we're just getting ready to become one happy global community ? . . and these are just the growing pains
. LOL

Kidding aside- I really don't think that the American govt is in control of our ultimate destiny at this point, do you ?

Scheme maybe nice but we can't afford it.

Not in the useless paper we call "dollar".

And certainly not in the invaluable resource termed "life".
