What's also troubling is that oil is dropping very slowly (maybe OPEC is taking pity on Dubya and the US)...and we've had several large loss trading sessions now...

I actually heard a talking head on CNBC say he thought a large market drop was about to happen...usually there are rah rahs all over the economic media...

I noticed that today. People could be selling that too bringing the price down. I'm not sure of the nuances of how that works.

T-Bonds should be up.

Doesn't feed trolls and would appreciate it if you
See, now, I'd like to not worry about the economy. A lot of hope for that is with my dual-nationality, though - with the US and the UK. Of course, if neither of them are doing well...Commonwealth? :s

Unless everything seriously comes crashing down, though, I'll be fine. I live in the lush state of Oregon which has a large and still growing wind/hydropower infrastructure and can produce just about anything one needs to eat, locally. So I buy stuff locally. I bike everywhere - I don't have a license, let alone a car. I also don't buy junk (or much of anything above necessities; even the computer I'm using now is a hand-me-down), so I've money for quality food and utilities.

The question remains as to how fast that food and those utilities will raise in price. Hopefully slow enough for me.

I was reading email at the open but apparently the Dow dropped like a rock at the open, -450 points to 11643

Feds cut interest rate a whopping 3/4 points Monday night as an emergency measure the largest in 2 decades to show the economy is "nimble".

For months we've been told how strong the economy is during a doubling of the deficit, a war with only US defense contractors as the victors, and an administration who's lies, half truths and secrets are just starting to unfold.

Is it any wonder people are so apathetic about voting?

Well the truth is that noise about everything is fine, don't worry be happy was only coming from one party.

I'm worried about the economy

You know freeones has really helped to appreciate just how small the world is.To think someone in Estonia's life is so entertwined economically with mine is still a shock I guess. You always hear things like if the US as the biggest economy in the world has trouble the world will also but to hear real people seeing it that seem so far away is different than just a concept of we are all connected.

We may be seeing a return to normalcy with Oil...it continues to slowly drop..we've been hearing for 3 years now that it was Chinese and Indian demand that was propping up oil prices...if our economy has begun the downfall..will our downfall take China down? Or will they be able to weather this and keep oil prices high?

If our economy slides into a long recession...and if China's economy begins to suffer...will those T-Notes be dumped on the market, not through retaliation but through China's own self-interest, then...well...the economic "perfect storm" will hit.

I posted a link somewhere, where the author suggests Bush went to the Middle East to keep the oil prices high. I don't know about that.

Current price is < $88 today, but Dow is free falling -275, low for the day.

Here's something to make you feel better whatever happens.

My thoughts too and the worry that the people of today are spoiled, mostly self centered and less apt to survive such a era. Not the stronger in faith and back of yesteryear. We are a weakened world. What is our future? Our ********'s future?

Good pics, Dorothea Lange.

Have you seen this one?

Yeah I have that one but not that version with Bush and friends photoshoped in,good one I will have to save it.

The newspaper headlines today used the word "Meltdown" for the first time I recall. I don't think people fully aware that we almost had a '29/'87 market crash yesterday.

I actually hope that the "tax rebate" part of the stimulus goes away. I don't see that happening people. It will just funnel back to Big Oil or Big Credit (MasterVisaAmEx). A true "rebate" to actually help people would need to be 10 TIMES the value that's being tossed about.

WWII and "The Tech War" helped pull our economy out of the shitter in the 30s and the late 80s/early 90s....

Who do we go to war with now to help bolster our economy? Our troops seem to be busy already.
