Gas is starting to rise to near $4.00/gallon here in Cali. I've seen Diesel at $4, Premium at $3.75, Plus $3.65, Regular at $3.55...and we still have a L O N G time until Spring arrives????

This economy is nearing total collapse ever week. Someone tell Bernanke that rate cuts aren't doing ****. Stop them. Try something else.

When was the worst US economy in the last 40 years...was it 1981-1983? Is there any chance we can get rid of Bush/Cheney and install Obama in 1600 Pennsylvannia Ave NOW? I don't know if our country can stomach another 10 months og George Bush's dumbassery...

The unemployment rate is low but is a false low due to many temp agency employment agencies, who hire employees for small amounts of time and the employees do not claim unemployment benefits thus bringing the unemployment numbers down...not enough consistent full-time jobs are being created, in Ontario many car/auto production plants are laying off employees....

Yes, I've been saying that for years the figures are falsely low. I know Alan Greenspan has made repeated statements about not lowering interest rates on TV interviews and in his book, and this is now some of the damage with currency rates moving sharply against the dollar. It was also brought out that past trade imbalances are owed to China and Japan of close to $2B. An author of a book I read made the point if they want to call that in, all hell will break lose.

One thing that may have to happen, in order to actually pump life into our economy, is for interest rates to be raised, in order to spark "global" interest in our economy.

If Bernanke the idiot actually started raising interest rates...Wall Street would drop a giant turd, but it would ***** Americans to "rein in their credit," save money, stop spending, tighten budgets, and attract foreigners (cough cough China)...to buy our TNotes until broad economic indicators (namely gas and housing) return to normal levels.

I get the feeling that Bernanke is just doing whatever he can to keep our Economy on life support until a new President gets elected, fires him, and hires someone else to steer our sinking ship....

Maybe *** buys them dinner and packs their lunchboxes and they don't care as long as video games don't go up by the same amount which they surely will. A jump in eggs, milk, bread or a 40% increase in the $1 price of a pound of pasta isn't so laughable or cheap sounding when you realize that your $400 monthly food bill just went up to $640 and you are paying twice for gas you did 5 years ago, while paying off a mortgage that will readjust on a house worth half what you paid.

well, stock up on canned goods if you can. just double-up if you can afford it, because it'll go up again next month.
of course it's the perishables that are rising fastest. raise your own food? community garden? chickens? all viable options (for some).
the really ******, vexing pisser is: when the fed calculates inflation, they don't figure in food pricing. why not?
they are in need of an audit.

I went outside to look for the space shuttle in a rare night launch 20 minutes ago, and the overseas market updates were on. Hang Seng was down 300 points, and there was a lot of other red I caught while waiting.

Dow was well below 12k yesterday.

Yes, I am worried and for some reason, it all crystallized on Monday.
I'm now liquid and would like to ask which FDIC Money Market Fund it is you guys could recommend. It's been years since I'd deposited into a MM so I could certainly use a lead.

Would 4 - 4.5 % be too much to ask for at this time ?

What did we see and for how long ?

About 10 - 12 years ago, I set my alarm for a 4 AM to witness a shuttle reentry and I have to tell you, I wouldn't miss one again if the timing was right. The bright "roadflare" was said to be 49 miles above my head that morning. Impressive !
