I find myself more and more wanting to talk about what AOC is up to lately, because she's where the fight is. She's an enraged pitbull and the dems need to unleash her and then get right fucking behind her. There's a lot of people doing a lot of good work for the anti-republican/fascist/nazi/qanon side, everyone's playing their part, don't get me wrong, but she's undeniably our champion right now. I'm a big fan.

I'm not going to make any bold predictions about her future, but I do hope she keeps doing what she's doing for a long time to come.

I fully support her. These people tried to take over your country for themselves, they cannot be supported, normalized, or negotiated with. Fuck them. I hope the rest of the dems have the balls to follow her lead.

I mean, she's great but it's also America. For every person who appreciates her no-nonsense politics and world view and socialism, there is going to be another one telling her she should shut her mouth and get back in the kitchen and lol she used to be a bartender. So to be clear, the people who were banging on her door yelling "Where is she?!" were the police trying to evacuate her, and not the rioters? I mean, that makes sense, but the way she presented it in her video gave the impression of the latter.

At the time when she was hearing "Where is she?" she had no clue who was knocking. It is a manner of storytelling from a 'point of view' perspective. Too much drama for my taste, but it is a narrative tool.

Ok, you're a - what is she, 30-something years old? - female senator, who the insane right have openly detested for years, to the point where other senators have called you a fucking bitch on the steps of the capitol building. An insane right wing extremist mob has taken control of the capitol building, police and security have been overwhelmed, they're actively looking for selected people to publicly execute, of which you are one, and you're hiding in an office that is not in the capitol building, but separated by only a couple hundred yards of tunnels. Then someone comes banging on the door looking for you and fails to identify themselves clearly. Do you think you have the right to be afraid??? Given that it seems like some number of the capitol police were on the side of the insurrection I'd say she was wise to be afraid of this man. I don't accept that a decent human being could see it otherwise.

Easy, I'm not bashing her or anything. I just distinctly remember watching her video and thinking "Holy shit, she was literally on the other side of a door from being lynched or killed". And then I see this and feel like I've been mislead. The way she presents it, I can't be the only one who thought that she was referring to the rioters and not the police. And even if she thought that at the time, by the time she posted the video she would have known who was yelling for her, so I think it would have been prudent for her to make that clear, otherwise she's opening herself up to contravening reporting like this.

Like gmase said, a little too much drama IMO. She didn't need to add anything, the events were scary enough as it is. She could have just said the police were banging on her door, evacuating everyone since the mob could be there at any second, and that would have been enough to sell me. She was a legit target of a mob that was at her doorstep. That's an irrefutable fact, and that's all she needed.

Ever since "Fake news" and "Alternative facts" hit our vocabulary, I think politicians & reporters need to more careful than ever to ensure their statements hold up to scrutiny. You don't want to end up a meme like Conway/Spicer.

(Yes, it's a couple weeks old, I guess because my feed isn't being fed these types of stories nor am I actively looking for them)

Fair enough. I'm a little defensive after going through the days of the right screaming that she had no right to be afraid and couldn't possibly have been afraid or even in danger. It was a very dangerous situation that could easily have gone a very different way, and nobody has the right to tell someone who was inside it how they should have felt.

To me, the most shocking thing about all of this is still how easy it was for those people to stroll into the building. I would never have believed it was possible. It will quite likely never be possible again, but it was possible just a few weeks ago, even though everyone knew it was likely to happen.
