Yeah. Still doesn't top The Work Which Transforms God though. Not that they ever will. No "atmospheric" Black Metal band will ever best the intensity of The Choir Of The Dead, and to a lesser extent, Procession Of The Dead Clowns. That whole album is eerily enchanting though, and given my mood when I listen to it, sometimes purely frightening. Once again, thank you Choir Of The Dead!

Morrigan, Thus Defiled, Burzum. I liked Theatre of Tragedy when they had Liv Kristine. She's probably my favorite singer and I like her band Leaves' Eyes ok.

I recently dug up an old album I have, NOCTES Pandemonic Incantations, and I have to say I really forgot how good this one is. Very powerful black/death metal. Unfortunately NOCTES emerged in a time where tons of that music came to life, so they never really got a chance. But I'd even say that Pandemonic Incantations is way better than any NAGLFAR or SETHERIAL album.
Another album I'm listening to right now a whole lot is Engraved In Black from GRAVEWORM. Drowned In Fear is an absolute genius song.
And Black Metal fans should check out HELLSAW, a very talented band from my home country.

Great band, unfortunately they split up. But Enter The Moonlight Gate is one of those albums. But all of their outings were really good, and I think they went out with a bang with The Black Curse. Best song for me would be Purify Sweden from the Scythe Of Death-EP.
Also a great band, which unfortunately has too much in common with CRADLE OF FILTH. If they wouldn't exist, HECATE ENTHRONED could be that band. Still think that both The Slaughter Of Innocence and Kings Of Chaos are superb albums.
Another great band, and their debut Borknagar is a milestone of this musical genre.
Once again, great band, The Pagan Prosperity is their best album, haven't had a chance to listen to their new one Slaves Of The World (2009)
I really lost interest after Clouds, but the first three albums are absolute classics IMO.
I've only got their Unchain The Wolves album, but that's killer.
Soulside Journey is definitely one of the best Nordic Death Metal albums, and A Blaze In The Northern Sky is a milestone of northern Black Metal, so this band is one of the greatest ever. Until this day I am mesmerized by Under A Funeral Moon. Even though it consists of about three chords, but still, the evilness, grimness is so real. The song Unholy Black Metal is a hymn for this genre.
Well, Jon Nödtveidt was crazy as fuck, but his musical legacy cannot be compared to anything else. The Somberlain is a Swedish Black/Death Metal album of the uttermost quality, but Storm Of The Light's Bane took it even to another level. And...yes, I'm one of those...Reinkaos is a masterpiece in its own right.

Dragons Of The North IMO is still a classic, Odin Owns Ye All has to grow on you, and both Norwegian Native Art and Blot are albums way above average.
For me they have composed one of the best Metal songs and one of the best Metal albums of all time, with the song being Mother North from Nemesis Divina and the album being The Shadowthrone. That being said, I was very irritated by the direction SATYRICON was taking after that, but now I have to say all of their albums are really great.
Given all those great Scandinavian bands, I have to add ENSLAVED (their Frost album is a masterpiece), TWIN OBSCENITY, HELHEIM, GEHENNA, DØDHEIMSGARD's Kronet till konge, 1349, WINDIR, ANCIENT, CARPATHIAN FOREST, EMPEROR, GORGOROTH, IMMORTAL, LIMBONIC ART, MARDUK, MAYHEM, OBTAINED ENSLAVEMENT, OPHTHALAMIA, WATAIN, and the best of all, DAWN. If I had to vote for best Metal album of all time, it would be DAWN's Slaughtersun: Crown Of The Triarchy.
Dimmu Borgir is one of my fav bands. i know some BM fans think of them as sellouts, but I don't care. I love their music.
Astarte are GREAT! Not only do they play killer BM music, but they are hot, too!
I have not heard much of Theatre of Tragedy, but Liv is great. Leaves Eyes are a good band.
Dissection were great. Somberlain is a classic, and while Reinkaos shows a def change in the style the band played in, it a truly awesome album.
Celtic Frost are classic, but I am an even bigger Venom fan.
Satyricon are amazing, too, even though, they, too have evolved and changed over the yrs.

If everything was "real black metal" it would sound like the crap Burzum made when he was just starting out. There are 1000 bands that sound just like him back then. But what I consider black metal is alot of different sounds.It's not that I dont like Dimmu Borgir at all, I just think they sound like Cradle of Filth does nowdays (I used to like them too). Spellbound by The Devil, Mourning Tower, and Puritania are my favorite Dimmu Borgir Songs. I just cant listen to the same old thing though.

Thanx for the heads up on the female black metal bands. The song w/ Astarte and Angela is great! There is another female black metal band that is good, Opera IX. i never got around to owning their albums, but i like what i heard from them.

OPERA IX from Italy? If we're talking about the same band, there's not even one girl in it, but...they've got a (sometimes naked) lady on each album cover.
I've got their The Call From The Wood album which isn't too bad, but I've never followed up on them and have not heard another song.
