maybe he was depressed that he had to live in alabama and decided to end it all.

Don't you feel just a little depressed?
Every morning you wake up and...you're still you. That's so much worse than living in Alabama...

holy shit! I'm from Alabama *now living in GA* and it's crazy that that something could actually happen in Alabama! I don't know anyone in that area, but my roommate grew up near by....must call and check on her now....

Perhaps you are seeing it in a different way, since you live there and know actual people. I am from far away, never been there and know this part of the world only from stereotypes, documentaries, newspapers and news in general. And the latter mostly refer to Alabama (and some other nearby states) as a state where guns are plenty, where people are proud of having guns and where you can actually expect to be poitned a rifle up the nose very soon when someone won't like you. So in this respect, I am not surprised that it happened there. Still, it is a very sad story and it would be very interesting to know how is it possible that someone's mind becomes so dissoriented and noone in the society actually manages to become aware of that soon enough.

Geez...while I haven't been to Switzerland, I don't think they are always walking around in funny-looking clothes, in snowy mountains, and yodeling to each other on the way to work at the watch factory.

Alabama is a modern state in the modern country of the USA, and isn't a completely rural area where guns are pointed up your nose when someone doesn't like you.
That can happen anywhere in the world, from England to Gaza; Alabama is a great state to live in.
As are all the 50 states in the USA.

Re: Alabama Killing Spree!?!

Little did one of the main deputies of which was involved in the lengthy road pursuit know that his suspect had earlier murdered his wife and child !

Did any of guys catch that part of the story ?

Another reason why the 2nd Amendment is so wonderful and a beacon to the rest of the world.

For me, any day I'm willing to get massacred in our streets in exchange for the ability to be able to create my own destiny, free of government interference, relatively speaking, that is. The likelihood of myself getting massacred is too remote for me to worry about.

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.

It's so remote, the chances of getting massacred. The media sure likes to sensationalize these sorts of events though (and in the process make the gun the perp, when in reality it is deranged wackos.)

(Sad about the Germany massacre that just happened too. It's just a crazy world, and everyday we live to see another is a blessing.)

I am saddened by so much killing in America and Germany. Luckily enough with millions and milions of people forced to be laid off, lost their full/part-time jobs, hours cut, shift slashed and disappeared, we are basically still a law and order society.

However, in less than 12-18 months when "Unemployment Benefits" run out, I can not imagine what people will do when they lose their homes and no money even for grocery.

They won't do anything. Most people are good people. It's just a few nutters who make the gun owner in America look like a redneck, lunatic fringe. It's unjustified and inapropriate to make such assertions.

You mean like Germany, where they have strict gun laws, and no Constitution?

..In its own sick and twisted way, the higher the death count, the more redeemed and self righteous the mood of those so aligned with anti firearm activism.
The news stories that really chap their hide are those where a law abiding citizen takes the initiative to properly evaluate a dire situation and in doing so, terminates the life of a cold blooded murderer who, had he not been stopped, would have killed additional innocent citizens.

Like they say, "When we do right, on one remembers. When we do wrong, no one forgets". The news loves it too, whens the last time you can remember hearing of ANY news story that pointed out, a life saved by an armed home owner, or shop keeper. For every bad thing that happens due to a gun, at least one good thing happens, but you never hear about it. Punish everyone else, for the actions of a few, because it's easier then expecting the wrong doer to accept responsibility for what he's done, it's easier to blame in inanimate object.

I have explained where my thought came from. However, there are a few facts which speak up to those stereotypes. USA has by far the greatest amount of civil casualties caused by firearms in the world (not counting the countries which have war on their land). I do not wish to imply that this means every one there is walking around with an M16 and has a gatling mounted strategically on their yard. I only said that taking into account some statistics, this news were not surprising to me. Moreover, such bloodbaths happen in the USA quite regularly.

But there is also a big difference with your figurative answer regarding Switzerland. What you have given was a sterotype based on their history and culture, which is particular for them. I sincerely hope that this does not imply (from your side) that the case is the same in Alabama regarding guns.

In the twenty first century you could probably, on one hand, count such bloodbaths. They are very rare in the scheme of things.
