A Sex Offender just moved in!!!!

Why don't you scan and post the document you have received, stampede, so we can check it out.

In the meantime, everyone can gather up their pitchforks and light their torches.

The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
I just checked my mailbox this morning and found a notice that an individual that was convicted of "Unlawful Sexual Conduct with a Minor" and "Corruption of a Minor" now lives in the same apartment complex as I do!!!

The world is going to hell.

I am NOT defending this person what-so-ever, but "unlawful sex with a minor" could mean the following scenario (assuming it's a male that moved in)...

He was 19 years old. His girlfriend was 17 years old. They had consensual sex. The girl's parents reported it to the police. The guy was arrested and charged with statutory rape.

Like I said, I'm NOT defending him (because WHO KNOWS what he did), but I wouldn't assume the worst right away.

As a postal worker, it's my experience that sex offenders rarely stay for long in one location once they are found out by their neighbors.

I agree with Chef. I'm NOT saying I agree with what he did, but some parents just don't accept that their daughter's are having sex and they turn the boyfriend into the police.

According to the notice, he is 32. Which puts his age of his first crime in 2002 around 25, and his second offense in 2004 at around age 27.

So he wasn't a teenager when he did it.

Chef... I'm not gonna attack you or most others on this board, your just trying to see the BIGGER picture, and I get that. No hard feelings to you.

HOWEVER... there are a few on this board that REALLY have to work on that "brain to mouth" thing.... and you should know who you are.

Sure is, he shouldn't be out of prison.

Someone that had a baggy full of weed gets more jail time.

It's still against the law. The law says she can't give her consent until someone reaches the age of eighteen. Which is a good law.

It's a good law...to a certain point.

If you are 17 years and 364 days old, you're not allowed to give consent, because the government doesn't consider you capable of doing such a thing. One single day later, when you are 18 years old, the government then says that you are all of a sudden capable of making your own decisions.

Think about how stupid that is.

FYI - I know that they chose the age of 18 because a line had to be drawn somewhere and that's where they chose to draw it.

I live next to a guy who's not a known sex offender, but I'm pretty sure he's thinking about doing something. Let's do a pre-emptive attack on him just to make sure he doesn't.

Then we can keep him locked up in someone's basement (not mine, though - it's got my beer can collection!) until he dies - that way he'll get real justice, not this wimpy stuff of just a few months or years in prison...

I don't hear too many cases where someone was one day or a few hours away from being eighteen.

Yes, a line had to be drawn to protect young people.

It's there for a good reason and woe be unto them that cross the line. ;)

I don't get it. What do you mean you "found a notice"?

And why is the world going to hell? Somebody who had "unlawful sexual conduct with a minor" (we know what that can or cannot mean) lives in your neighborhood, so what? Are you a minor or do minors live in your household? Then maybe, and just maybe, you should be concerned.

Some people here are really fast when it comes to judging others...

Of course I'm a real fast judge when it comes to sexual offenders. These people are the most despised people on my account. They've sexually assaulted or offended a minor or whoever and they've taken away their victim's dignity, depending on what kind of act it was (physical or verbal), but they've scarred their victim for life you know. And people who've commited an offence like this are likely to do it again. It's in their blood to do it. They're posessed. So I say they should be isolated or just kept under continuous surveillance.

Jeez, it must be scary knowing you've got a sexual offender living in the same apartment building as you. I feel for you man. I'd keep an eye out for him. Just stay away from the guy and make sure you don't come into contact with him. If you want, start a petition to get rid of him.

Truth of Trash ?

Indecent exposure, e.g. peeing in public - even in "emergency" behind the ol bankrupt gas station, for example, could be a sex offense given the "right" conditions(?)

I've heard yes from good authority, at least twice before. I'm still a bit incredulous.

Something isn't stupid just because it's arbitrary. It's a judgment, and a judgment has to be made, however imperfect.

Rather than setting a certain age, what other sort of enforceable standard would you put in place? How would it be put into practice?

Just because you don't hear about it doesn't mean that it never happens.

I'm not arguing against the law. I think it's good, but the example I listed is an example of how silly it can be. Seriously, in the scenario I listed, our government is bestowing some sort of ultimate decision making privelage unto a person just because of one extra day of existence. If you think of it that way, the law can seem kind of silly.

Once again, I'm not arguing against the law. I already stated that a line had to be drawn and the age of 18 is where our government decided to draw it.

Well, I think I know what you're saying, but don't look at it as just one day, look at it as someone being 86,400 seconds older.

As for the "19 yr. old and the 17 yr. old" problem, well, I think laws could be adjusted to allow for situations like that, with plenty of restrictions. It wouldn't be easy or simple to draft that sort of legislation - when does the gap become suspicious, exploitive, creepy? - but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be worth the effort.
:2 cents:

when i was in college i met a 14 year old girl who invited me to her house when nobody else was there to have sex. after a while she introduced me to her girl friends, also 14, who also wanted to have sex with a college boy. until i graduated and left town, i thought i was in heaven. of course, looking back, i know it was illegal. if i had been caught i would have been sex offender. but since then, i have never touched an underage girl and am happily married and a good father.

i don't know the circumstances of the person who moved in, and i ain't saying that all sex offenders are good, but unless you know the whole story, you don't know the whole story. should you be concerned? yes. but i wouldn't kill the guy without knowing more. people change. :2 cents:

I have been in the company of someone who was just a suspected sex offender. I felt quite ill. It isn't easy to forgive. Especially when you have no real way of knowing when that person may offend again. Offend is not a strong enough word.
Usually these individuals were abused as children. That is the one thing that helps me understand and have a sliver of compassion towards them.
Still , it cannot be easy living in the same building as this person.

Yeah it is ridiculous sometimes ,but here(LA.) I am 99.999% certain that a 19 year old is doing nothing illegal if he he is having sex with a 17 year old. In most US states the age of consent is between 16-18, BUT the person can be no older than 2-5(varies) older than the 'minor'.
That would be like a 17 year old Senior dating a 15 year old Sophomore in High School , but has to immediately break off the relationship once the older party becomes 18 which would be absolutely ludicrous. There is a 2-5 year age cushion in most states .

You are right however, as Joey Buttafucco(?) was arrrested & did 6 months in
jail because he had sex with Amy Fisher (the more maniputalive/cunning party)only weeks (2?) before her 18th birthday.

The age of consent has steadily moved up from 12 in the past to 16-18 now probably to protect girls whose educations/futures were interrupted, due to marriage. Nothng overly moral about that number 18 as you have recognized it as BS. In fact many porn stars have shot their 1st scene on or near their 18th birthday.
