Yes! A "praise Germany" thread, nice!
But seriously, I like my country. Despite it's sometimes "confusing" history and some very strange people, there's a lot to like about this country.
For example:
I'm studying at a university whose institutes for history and Japanese studies are amongst the best in Europe (partly even the world) and my tuition fees/student fees (is it called that...the money I have to pay to study there?) are just above 800 Euros per semester. (Suck it, Harvard and Princeton.
)
The food is great. There is a first-class bakery on every corner, and not just big chains/brands, but mostly nice middle-class people. And we have so many good German, Italian, Turkish, Chinese (you name it) restaurants, diners and snack bars here, it's easy to become fat and poor. And the quality is through the roof because the controls and standards are high and strict. It's probably easier to get AIDS than to get food poisoning.
The cars...there's no arguing that...
And I can hop on a plane at Hahn airport and fly to Berlin for 20 bucks. Has anyone ever managed to do that from Detroit to New York?
Or if I drive my car to work regularly, I can deduct from my income tax what I payed for gas (it's what we call "Pendlerpauschale") and the state will repay me that part of my income tax, which can be up to 400, 500, even 600 Dollars a year. (That's how much our state wants us to work and pay our ridicolously high income taxes
:1orglaugh ).
We have the best tablewater/sparkling water and the best apple juice in the world. There is no arguing that either.
And the women...beautiful...mostly egomaniacs, but that's the case worldwide I guess...
Ok, I think I should stop know....
Of course there are some not so nice things, too. The DVD prices are killing me. For example the first season "How I Met Your Mother" still costs 30 Euros (about 40 Dollars) and the latest season House MD even 55 Dollars. Or my electric and water bill...it's almost 160 dollars per month (and my bill is not above average and I have no kids). The average income here is a little bit higher than in the US, so I guess we'll have to live with these prices...
Definatetly the Nurburgring. One day im going to drive that track.
That shouldn't be a problem as long as you bring your car.
Visitors can give their car a spin on the track on one of the weekdays...I think it was thursdays...when there's no race of course.
