You assume Biden goes for a second term. I believe he's a transitional president who steps aside in 2024 for Kamala. He'd be 82 heading to 86 by the end of his term.
Kamala is not the answer, but she cannot be tossed aside now. Leave her at VP and find another candidate to lead the ticket.

Gavin Newsom would be the front runner. Of course the restriction about the President and VP being from the same state poses an issue. (Much like Rubio and Trump.) Maybe Kamala can move to DC?

I was (and still am) willing to give Joe the benefit of the doubt, but recent disclosures are concerning. Now that Carl Bernstein can trace these episodes back 18 months, there should be heightened scrutiny about Biden.

Just because replacing the candidate will be difficult and it has not been done so late before doesn’t mean it cannot or should not be done. All elections are critical, but this one feels different. Extraordinary circumstances require extraordinary measures. Take them and get it right.

When Bernstein says Trump is worse than Nixon you know there is a problem.

It gives me a bit hope that at least one of the two candidates in spe is coming to grips with reality. I don't think that I can make a good enough judgement on who should and could be the next best thing. Sure, it would be hella funny if Hillary Clinton would make a comeback AND win against Trump, especially IF he were in prison in winter 2024/2025...

But I get the strong feeling the powers behind the representatives will let him slip through the net of justice.

Just watched the WH press secretary's disingenuous response to questions regarding Biden at a live press conference.
The narrative that he had a cold is an outright lie. There was no apparent cough or evidence of congestion during the debate consistent with a cold.
The Press Secretary acknowledged [inadvertantly] that it was actually the press that gave them the "cold" excuse.
So, it seems as if they basically said, okay, sounds good, we'll go with that.

Biden said he almost fell aspleep on stage, hinting at exhaustion. But he never said that he had a cold.
It's more likely that his disastrous performance was due to excessive/rigorous debate prep, leaving him mentally and physically
incapacitated, which begs the obvious question, realistically, is he fit to competently serve as POTUS for the next 4 years?

The overall decline in Biden from the beginning of his term to now is stark and alarming.
With this ongoing coverup, the administration is now currently spewing as much bulls**t as the Republicans. It's insulting and a disgrace!

You really want the rest of the country to be the crap hole california is? He took a surplus, and turned it into a MASSIVE deficit. Useless newsome will destroy this country's sovereignty. He is a clear threat to the Constitution, and shouldn't be considered for anything more then fertilizer. More importantly, his attempts do do away with the 2nd Amendment could possibly start a civil war. He's no better than his aunt piglosi. But putting my personal hatred, deep vile hatred aside, how are they going to pull that off? Do away with the primary process? Are they even legally allowed to just cherry pick who they want, at this point? They put Biden on the ticket, and when they didn't like the way it turned out, they usurp the rules and just pick someone. At best they should be FORCED to run harris, and let her pick the vp she wants.....or more likely the person they tell her to pick. And I suppose you've seen more then one article stating that Harris was mad that they would put a white male in the running. In fact one black female politician said the black women of this country will lose their minds if they bypass a black female for a white man.

I joked in real life about Hillary coming back. She has actually sounded better during recent interviews.

You raise the ultimate question: Is Biden fit for four more years? If Bernstein is correct, probably not. Is Trump fit for four more years? Fuck no.

The onus goes on Kamala if Biden goes forward. FDR should not have been running in 1944. He was literally on death’s door. Truman worked out fine. Is Kamala a Truman? Likely not, but we know what Trump is.

And Trump did what to the US deficit? He increased it by $8 trillion over 4 years. Only Honest Abe and W grew it larger as a percentage of the economy.

Useless newsome will destroy this country's sovereignty. He is a clear threat to the Constitution, and shouldn't be considered for anything more than fertilizer.
I don’t recall his minions storming the capital in Sacramento. Trump has stated what he wants to do. Project2025 lays out some good stuff as well. Maybe it is hyperbole, but the true threat is hardly Newsom when compared to the other option.

More importantly, his attempts do do away with the 2nd Amendment could possibly start a civil war.
Ok. The Supreme Court will make sure that does not happen. No one person can override the 2nd Amendment - just do a cursory review of the cases over the last 4 years.

As noted in my comment, Harris is not going anywhere. She will be running as either the President or VP candidate. The laws around campaign funds will certainly dictate the candidates.

I am fine with Biden running. He is more fit for office than Trump. Biden’s delegates are legally bound to vote for him at the convention. It would be up to Biden to release them from their commitment. Up to this point he has indicated he will not do so.

The clear threat to the Constitution? That's the GOP candidate. Donald J. Trump. #45 who's looking to become #47. If he gets in, he'll use his Attorney General to dismiss the Jack Smith indictments. Make America Great Again? He's not running for us. He's running to save himself. To stay out of jail. Does he pardon himself if he gets convicted? He now has Presidential Immunity granted to him by the United States Supreme Court. But most of these things with the 2020 Election were as Candidate Trump not as President Trump. Same is true with the Manhattan criminal conviction under Judge Merchan. In 2016, he was the Candidate not the President. Back to 2020, the Fake Elector scheme? Listening to the soon to be disbarred lawyer John Eastman, the already disbarred Rudolph Giuliani, the convicted Kenneth Chesbro and Sidney Powell in having Vice President Mike Pence not certify the Electoral College vote and have the vote go back to the GOP led state legislators to chose the Electors. Yes, all criminal acts. But the United States Supreme Court just gave him the power of King. A monarch. That's what the country rebelled against during the American Revolution and especially in the Declaration of Independence. He'll pardon all the J6 insurectionists. Trump will probably make the convicted former Proud Boys leader Henry "Enrique" Tarrio his White House Chief of Staff. He already has the U.S. Supreme Court in his pocket. He'll make the Court 7-2. He'll put another Conservative Justice in Sonia Santomayor's place. She's clearly the one Associate Justice that probably would be stepping down. Think about your liberties. You can forget about watching porn and your First Amendment rights. Trump will use Project 2025 to take all those rights away. It's already starting happening in Texas, in North Carolina, in Tennessee, in Alabama, in Florida. Have you tried getting into Pornhub in those states? Look what he's done with Roe vs. Wade. He brags about it. How he used his appointments to the Court as the basis for getting abortion, also known as a women's right to choose, overturned. He complains about migrants and how crime has gone up because of them. How countries are releasing their mental patients on the United States. He blames the Liberal Democrats. Yet who put those migrants in New York, Philadelphia, Detroit, in Chicago? It was the GOP governors Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott in Florida and Texas. They had buses at the detention centers taking them out of Florida and Texas and having them shipped North. He blames the Immigration problem on the Biden Administration. But if you really think about it, it was the GOP led House who killed the funding and the Senate bi-partisan agreement. All done with Donald Trump's approval. He uses it as the bargaining chip at all his rallies. He'll have Steve Bannon pardoned again. He needs someone who is really experienced in running the Southern Border Wall Grift and Steal program. The list continues. Like books being banned? It will only get worse. Now, if you liked the first four years, Mr. Orange Skin will complete his greatest task. To do us all in.

I'm sure as hell not doing cartwheels over trump, but I'll take my chances with him, over just about any democRAT out there. Especially useless newsome, and the disgraceful trash on the squat. I see it the other way. I see the dems as being tratorous, and a threat to this country. I guess we'll see what happens, but it's going to be ugly.

Did Biden's 22-minute sit-down with George Stephanopoulos change anyone's mind? I am guessing 'no.' He came across as defensive and evasive at times. If he's waiting for the 'Lord Almighty' to tell him to get out of the race, then it is time for Barack to pick up the phone and call Joe.

He is treading water at best right now - not sinking further, but not rising either. This next week will be critical.

As we approach the 50th anniversary of Nixon's resignation, I am reminded of this story:
"On Aug. 7, 1974, U.S. Sen. Barry Goldwater, R-Ariz., U.S. House Minority Leader John Rhodes, R-Ariz., and U.S. Senate Minority Leader Hugh Scott, R-Pa., made it clear to the embattled Nixon that he faced all-but-certain impeachment, conviction and removal from office in connection with the Watergate scandal.

Nixon announced his resignation the next evening, effective at noon on Aug 9, 1974."

A guy who can take Donald Trump down now? Although he has too much baggage (with all the sexual harassment allegations) ... Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Maybe even Hillary Clinton? She could try her luck again but this time as the VP.

An historical two women ticket? ... Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton

Would Donald Trump win if those two were on the Democratic ticket?

Maybe he can draw some of the MAGA crowd with the sexual harassment allegations? The more the merrier.

Televised catfights? That would certainly be an interesting team.

Would Donald Trump win if those two were on the Democratic ticket?
They may attract some voters - like myself - who regret not voting for her in 2016.

Senator Ron Johnson (WI) on Democrats: “The minute they lose the media, they really are toast,”
The media turned on Biden immediately after the debate. Trump's lying gets a pass? Why are we not equally focused on that aspect of Trump? Biden's age is fair game, but Trump's lying is equally - if not more - important. What are the 'black jobs' being taken? Why is that getting lost? ''

Joe's age and ability are valid concerns. Trump's honesty - or lack thereof - is critically important.

Obama: “Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself. Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will give it to the American people straight — and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit. Last night didn’t change that, and it’s why so much is at stake in November.”

In 1974, I remember my grandfather saying "they're always picking on Nixon." Recently, in a local restaurant, I overheard a conversation about 45 and how they felt sorry for him. Fifty years later, with new faces, yet, the politics remains the same. My guy is an angel, while your guy is evil.

Too many people hanging their opinion on apearances, habits, not actions, those things that prove what the candidates are made of.

One has delivered on the key issues, I would say he overachieved massively, the other has cheated and lied to everyone he had the chance to do so, and demands total, Mafia-style, loyalty, then turns around and throws everybody under the bus no matter what. Burying a former wife on a golf court for tax reasons.

They are both very old, and will maybe be able to make their second term, maybe they will have to pass the administration to a Vice President.

But only one of them is guaranteeing to keep the USA a democracy. If you are willing to change your country to something like Russia, China, North Korea, yes, the GOP guy is your man.

Biden is simply not dealing in reality

More and more, I find myself losing respect for Biden who I've always given credit for at least having a measure of wisdom.
Refusing to step aside, I now see him as a stubborn, delusional (i.e., foolish) old man who seems to be detached from reality and deeply in denial.
Sadly, at this point, he's humiliating himself and tarnishing his legacy.

Biden's most recent [major] gaffes:

During the debate he said...
"I'm the only president this century" and "this decade" that did not have any troops dying anywhere in the world".
This gaffe is absolutely egregious and speaks [perhaps] directly to evidence of dementia.

In a post-debate interview. he said..
"By the way, I'm proud to be, as I said, the first vice president, the first Black woman
to serve with a Black president, ..."

He is being a politician. The issue with watching history unfold in real time is that it takes so long. Watergate took a couple years to evolve. This has a due date so it will move quickly, but not as fast as we would like.

During the debate he said...
"I'm the only president this century" and "this decade" that did not have any troops dying anywhere in the world".

In a 1976 debate Ford said that Poland was not under Soviet domination.

In a post-debate interview. he said..
"By the way, I'm proud to be, as I said, the first vice president, the first Black woman
to serve with a Black president, ..."
He mixed up a couple concepts there for sure. Jill was probably surprised by that one!

Both of these instances illustrate one of the larger issues now: Anything Joe says will be completely blown up. Trump does it all the time, the mainstream media ignores it (or just leaves it to the comedians/late night shows), and it becomes 'it's just Trump.' Why is the media screaming about Biden and how he needs to leave (I am not disputing the need by any means), but Trump gets a pass for lying so much? I was watching the debate on CNN and John King immediately went off on Biden and the Democrat mess. Trump's dishonesty was an afterthought. :brick:

Trump should be holding interviews answering for himself!

Trump should be holding interviews answering for himself!
Donald Trump will give an interview on Fox News. He also has two other far-right places, on NewsMax or on One America News Network (OANN) where he'll grant interviews. He'll pepper the commentary with lies. He'll continue the rhetoric with the half-truths, the misrepresentations, and the lies. Remember when he was on Twitter as the President ... how many times was he caught in a lie, a half truth and a misrepresentation? About 77 % to 83 % of his Tweets and Re-Tweets were falsehoods. On some days during his Presidency, everything he said on Twitter that day was a lie. A pure fabrication. Now that the 2024 election year is here; what he says is that it was his Administration that was the best in history; that the economy was the best under his guidance and that Joe Biden is the worst President in history. We all know that is not true. David Muir of ABC News called him out in a 2020 interview where unemployment during the Pandemic was at 19.2% in the country. That the death toll because of Covid-19 under his Administration was over 600,000 dead Americans at the time of the interview. Yet Donald Trump had pretty much no answer for him on each of these two subjects. With Donald Trump, there is no accountability. He has to continue with the lies because he knows mainstream media will not call him out on any of it. And if they did stop to call him out on the diarrhea that spews from his mouth, he'd call it "fake news, that he's being persecuted, etc., etc." He will go on a rant on Truth Social and sure enough there would be bomb threats made to CNN and other mainstream news outlets possibly even office buildings and TV studios being evacuated because of his wack-job supporters -- If he stopped and told the truth, he knows that he would not get elected in November. So the lies continue. He's convinced himself that what he is says is without fault. He keeps up with the facade. Yes, is it a very narrow and a narcissistic approach? You're damn right it is. Is he a sociopath? Yes to that too. His lawyers, his sons and his inner circle have all reinforced that idea and notion. So he continues with it. At this point in time, so close to the election, he can't say anything truthful. What comes out of his mouth is pure fiction and it will need to stay like that.

A really good summary of the case against joe. And this is coming from Jon Stewart, who is as anti-trump as they get

Particularly on point about how joe would be fine if tump won as long as "he did his best". This isn't a participation trophy.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/07/09/biden-give-it-all-election-satire/

“If you stay in and Trump is elected and everything you’re warning about comes to pass, how will you feel in January?” — George Stephanopoulos
“I’ll feel,
as long as I gave it my all, and I did [as] good a job as I know I can do, that’s what this is about.” — President Biden

You are in a plane. The pilot comes on the PA system. “Well, folks, we’re going to be starting our descent,” he announces, “and should be touching down safely in Denver in about 20 minutes. But if we don’t, I’ll feel, as long as I gave it my all, and I did as good a job as I know I can do, that’s what this is about.”

Feeling good as long as you give it your all despite the outcome all is fine if we're talking about a pick up basketball game or pulling a shift down at the box factory, not if your trying to be president of the most potentially destructive country in the Earth's history, and not when things like rising fascism, authoritarianism, religious nutcases, and the actual very real and very serious existential threat to our democratic republic and it's institutions are on the line with Trump and Trumpism.

Biden is obviously dementia addled, or has other similar conditions that closely mimic it. His brain is cooked, and keeping him around like people are is borderline elder abuse at this point. He isn't qualified to be a elderly Walmart greeter, let alone the President of the United States,...and yeah I will admit it if it comes down to it I will still vote for him readily knowing all that as the alternative is so horrible (or not viable of actually getting elected) I have no other choice anymore. It pisses me off. If he was up against somebody like George HW Bush or Ford I would probably just leave the presidency spot on ballot blank than vote for Biden.

It does make me despise the Democratic party just that much more. I just can't believe how week, ineffectual, and timid they are. They are a bunch of fucking weaklings that struggle to do anything for normal common people baring somebody dragging them kicking and screaming to do so. Oh don't worry though if it comes to doing something for rich businesses or other moneyed interest they can get right on that. Rallying around somebody that struggles to complete logical thoughts anymore is cult like thinking. It's veering closer to how Republicans act. Really, out of millions of other people, and thousands of other Democrats, it's impossible for them to come up with anybody better?

The Democrats only live of the fact they aren't as abysmally horrible, don't enjoy cruelty nearly as much, or have the large number of dangerous lunatics the Republicans have in political power.

In this election cycle, for the first time in American history, both sides failed miserably in producing a suitable/sensible POTUS candidate.
The process of electing a President is only as good as (i.e., wise as) the voters of each party.
The problem is... although these voters know what they want domestically (small picture), they're often ignorant of or indifferent to
the higher/more important stakes at play globally (big picture). But unfortunately, being the incompetent campaigners that they are, the Democratics
have failed to articulate to the public what could conceivably happen under Trump.

With a Trump victory, Ukraine funding ends, NATO alliance weakens, Russian takes Ukraine.
Balance of world military power notably shifts, as Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran form an alliance, putting US and its allies at a disadvantage.
An emboldened China then attacks our long-time friend/ally/ Taiwan, a fellow Democracy. But Trump chooses not to defend.
China then assumes control over the #1 microchip/semiconductor manufacturer in the world - Taiwan Semi (TSM).
China leverages TSM to disrupt or even restrict chip sales to US companies, thereby limiting America's capacity to innovate commercially and militarily.
US growth in AI and other futuristic technologies would be impeded, throwing the US economy into a deep and long lasting recession.

What Trumps supporters don't get is just how critical NATO is to the prosperity and overall well-being of the US and to the Free World at large.
