2016 Olympics

Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker!
The Detailed vote totals:

The first-round vote totals showed Madrid with 28, Rio 26, Tokyo 22, and Chicago 18. In the second round, it was Rio 46, Madrid 29, and Tokyo 20, and in the last round, it was Rio 66 and Madrid 32.

Doesn't that fit Rio as well? :dunno:

To an extent yes. Minus Oprah, that corrupt asshole Richard M Daley sold Chicago down the river. No more Marshall Fields, no more Comiskey Park, no more Miegs Field, no more Sears Tower. . . but there's plenty of corruption and big ******* government to go around. I am glad to see Daley got his ass handed to him on a platter. The 50 million spent on this bid could of gone into the public school system. I wonder if the Olympic committee did see some of the poor neighborhoods that were going to be used for some of the Olympic venues. There are some neighborhoods in the near west-side/south-side close to downtown that look like a bomb went off. The IOC may be blind to certain things, but they are not stupid.

:2 cents:

It's offical Rio gets the win, they just announced it on ESPN

Actually the 2 biggest things against Chicago were
1-Daley trying to change the bid agreements earlier this year
2-Changes at the top of the USOC and their plan to start Olympics TV which would have ended network bidding for rights which would have ended the cash flow and the IOC was totally against that so Chicago had no chance because of internal politics. I'm really surprised that Madrid didn't get the nod because of the Samaranch(?) influence.

While I'm not surprised that Rio got the nod and wish them luck I won't be surprised if after the London games in 2012 if there hasn't been progress made in Rio or if the economy is still bad that they move the 2016 games to London or China where the facilities will be there to use without as much expense.

^^Wow. Would the IOC be legally allowed to do that??

There would probably be a stink but Athens almost lost the games severral time because they were not meeting required building goals and other sites were looked at, Salt Lake City came close to losing out due to financial scandal and there have been other problems. The only real thing Chicago had going for them was the corporate money that would be available from sponsors.

Sooner or later if the Olympics really want to continue they will have to pick permanent sights for both the summer and winter games and let them stand. The expense for new sights all the time is just too much.

"The expense for new sights all the time is just too much"

True. Reminds me of F1 and their costs. Unbelievable for a car wreck.

Not sure how this is a shock...at least as far as Chicago is concerned.

I'm sure it didn't help them with one of the most talked about stories in news today is a 16 y.o. *** getting beat to death on one of their streets.:2 cents:

Yep, I mean I love the Chi, but the city's priorities are definitely screwed.

Anyway Rio De Janeiro is prolly gonna have way more fun with it. They have the best soccer team in the world, rival the US in volleyball, and quickly catching up in basketball. Plus martial arts and honestly the beaches are sexier. Sex sells even to the IOC.:nanner:

Rio will be the first South American city to host the Olympics. It is probably way past due for that continent. Let's just hope no athletes or their ****** members are ********* and held for ransom.

It's good to be the king...
You just wait until corruption becomes an Olympic sport! Chicago will get all the gold medals and leave the rest in the dust! :D

Hey - Chicago's always welcome to London's spot in 2012....and the naff Lisa Simpson wannabe Olympic logo....

I think abother reason Chicago might not have gotten the games is because Vancouver is hosting next year. Even though its the winter games, I'm not sure how keen they are to have multiple Olympics on the same continent in a short span. Though its pure speculation (Athens 2004, Turin 2006... *cough*)

That is if you don't count the fact that Rio makes Chicago look pleasent as far as crime is concerned.
