In the show down in Motown rookie third baseman Nick Castellanos came through with a big two-run double as part of a six-run third inning as my Tigers defeated the Kansas City Royals, 9-5, in the opener Detroit’s biggest series of the season. Justin Verlander or has he is better known in these parts “Kate’s Boyfriend” allowed four runs on six hits with a walk over seven innings to pickup the win.

Mighty Max Scherzer will take the mound tonight against the Royals Jason Vargas.

Kansas City Royals (79-63) vs. Detroit Tigers (79-65) at Comerica Park tonight.

Go Tigers!!!,

Max Scherzer helped lead the Tigers to a virtual tie atop the AL Central with his 16th win last night. However, the coup de grâce came when the the Royals put their first two runners on base against Joe Nathan in the ninth, but our shaky closer Nathan struck out Alex Gordon, picked off pinch-runner Jarrod Dyson at second base and fanned Salvador Perez to save the 4-2 victory for Detroit.

If it ever stops raining Rick Porcello will take the hill tonight for Detroit against James Shields of Kansas City.

A.L. Central Standings

Kansas City 79-64 (.552 Pct,) GB ,,,,,
Detroit 80-65 (.552 Pct.) GB .....

Go Tigers!!!

Two steps forward, one step back: That seems to be how the Tigers season has gone. After winning the first two games in convincing fashion against the Royals, the Tigers took a step back last night in a disappointing 3-0 nothing loss. In the standings the Tigers are just one game back, but are they really? Upon analysis it would be more accurate to say they are two games back. Kansas City has won 80 and lost 64, whereas the Tigers have also won 80 but they have lost two more games than the Royals have with 66. With just 16 games remaining and the season winding down I’m getting less and less optimistic about their chances to catch Kansas City. If they’re going to win this thing they will need to go on a sustained winning streak starting now. I say this because just looking at the Royals bullpen I don’t believe Kansas City will lose too many more games.

For example:

K.C. 7th inning pitcher, Kelvin Herrera’s record: 62 innings, 9 earned runs and a 1.30 ERA.

K.C. 8th inning pitcher, Wade Davis’s record: 62 innings, 5 earned runs, 96 strikeouts and a 0.70 ERA.

K.C. 9th inning pitcher, Greg Holland’s record 56 innings, 10 earned runs, 80 strikeouts with a 1.60 ERA.

If the Royals have a lead after six, it’s safe to say the game is pretty much over.

The Tigers bullpen is still suspect with a combined ERA of 4.57 (second worst in the league). And one could say this is their Achilles Heel, on one occasion they can appear lights out, on the next night they can struggle mightily.

Oh well there is always the wild card to fall back on.

The Baltimore Orioles will have to start the playoffs without their power hitting first basemen Chris Davis.

Major League Baseball announced today that Davis has been suspended 25 games for the use of amphetamines. The ban is effective immediately and will include the Orioles final 17 games of the regular season. It also includes the playoffs, so Davis would be ineligible to play the first eight playoff games should the Orioles advance that far.

What the hell is wrong with the Oakland A's?

They’re just going through a slump that all teams encounter that is being magnified with all of the coverage by the national media. They may not win the AL West, but they are still in the running for the top "Wild Card" spot. The Athletics like my Tigers need to string together some hits and find a way to win.

The Tigers moved back into first place in the AL Central with a 7-2 win over Cleveland last night. They are a half-game ahead of the Royals, who lost to the Red Sox. The question is, how long will they stay in first place?

The up-and-down, hard to predict Tigers complete a three-game sweep against the Indians with a 6 4 victory on Sunday to go up by 1½ in the A.L Central over the Royals. The Tigers go on a six-game road trip starting Monday, with three against the Twins and three against those pesky Royals next weekend. The outcome of the season will ride on those three games in K.C. As Yogi Berra once said “It’s not over until it’s over.”

The Mets dumped Chris Young and his .205 BA .346 Slg in 88 games. $7M out the window. The Yankees pick him up off the scrap heap and is .400 BA .920 Slg in his first 9 games 25 AB. Makes me want to puke.

Not sure how much this will hurt the O's if any. The Orioles are my team and I watch all the games. Many of Davis' home runs were in non clutch situations. For you Sabermetricians Davis' WAR is 1.8 which puts him in a reserve role level.

The suspension was one way to get him out of the lineup without bruising his 10 million dollar ego.

After J.D. Martinez launched a dramatic go-ahead three-run homer in the top half of the ninth to put the Tigers up 3-2, things started unraveling for the Tigers in the bottom of the ninth. (By the way that was the 9th ninth inning home run that J.D. Martinez has hit this season, talk about a clutch hitter.)

Tigers closer Joe Nathan proceed to walked Trevor Plouffe with one out, and pinch-runner Doug Bernier came all the way home on a double that should have been just a single by Kurt Suzuki which bounced over the outstretched glove of Tigers centerfielder Ezequiel Carrera, who was trying to make a play happen that wasn’t there. Pinch- runner Chris Herrmann moved to third, and Aaron Hicks' chopper landed well behind and to the left of second base. Detroit shortstop Andrew Romine fielded it cleanly but his throw to first was late, with Herrmann crossing home to end the game.

Note: Nathan's blown save was his seventh of the season, setting a new career high for him. It’s time to move Joakim Soria into the closer roll. Joe Nathan’s career is over.

Pucker Up Butter Cup.
I fucking LOVE the Royals implosion right now. Lose, Lose, and lose some more you POS fucks.

This is it... Detroit Tigers (84-68) at Kansas City Royals (83-68) with first place in the AL Central on the line tonight.

Probable Starting Pitchers: Detroit – Kate’s Boyfriend (Justin Verlander) vs. Kansas City - Jason Vargas (11-9, 3.41)

Detroit has gotten the better of the Royals in head-to-head action this season, taking 11 of the 16 games the advantage has been even more pronounced in Kansas City, where the Tigers have gone 6-1. However, Kansas City has been a thorn in Verlander's side this season, as he has pitched to a 5.59 ERA in three starts against the club. He's 18-16 lifetime against the Royals with a 4.42 ERA. Kansas City will rely on lefty Jason Vargas in the opener. Vargas has lost four of his last five starts and has looked bad in his last two, giving up nine runs in 11 innings. He lost to the Tigers two starts ago, yielding four runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings. It sounds like the first game of this series could be a slug fest, so look for a pitchers battle instead.

Prediction: Detroit 2, Kansas City 1 in 11 innings on an Ian Kinsler home run (Kinsler is over due). Phil Coke gets the win in relief.

Go Tigers!!!

Tigers bullpen has to improve if they want to do anything in the playoffs :2 cents:
