It's been pleasant so far. I've only caught one medal so far in the cycling event from this morning my time. Watched a little cycling, some women's soccer, table tennis, women's volleyball, swimming events and now men's beach volleyball. Where else but the Olympic games. :lovecoupl

Malaysian Olympian competing 8 months pregnant

http://www.nbcolympics.com/news-blogs/shooting/malaysian-olympian-competing-8-months-pregnant.html

She's shooting for two.

A Malaysian woman who is eight months pregnant will compete in 10-meter air rifle at the London Games. She found out she would be a mother just days after she found out she would be an Olympian.

Nur Suryani Mohammed Taibi is due in September. Feeling some of mom's Olympic excitement, the baby is kicking, and between deep breaths Taibi will ask her unborn child for restraint during competition Saturday.

"I will breathe in and breathe out and try to calm myself down and talk to baby: 'Behave yourself and help mummy to shoot.' And luckily she understands, she always understands," Taibi was quoted as saying Friday.

Being pregnant means the 29-year-old Taibi has to get in and out of a special suit and belt for practice, but that is only one challenge: She is also drawing overwhelming attention that threatens her concentration ahead of competition Saturday.

Her husband is great support and helps her remain calm and focused on the positive.

"When you think negative things, it will give you more stress, then it will make your anxiety greater and then you cannot handle the stress and the situation," Taibi told the official Olympic news service. "It makes you less confident of yourself and less focused on yourself."

To her parents, the mother-to-be is already a champion.

"Whatever happens, I'm satisfied already," her father, Mohammed Taibi, told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Friday from the family home in northern Malaysia.

"I'm proud of her. I've told her: If you can compete in the Olympics, that's such an achievement already — all the more when you're pregnant. We're her family, so we support her. We'll be praying for her," he said.

Both parents will be watching the competition on television.

Taibi is ranked 47th in the world and won two golds at the Southeast Asian Games in 10-meter air rifle and 50-meter rifle in November. She finished fifth in 10-meter rifle at the Asian Championships in January to earn a spot on Malaysia's Olympic team.

Taibi also qualified for the 50-meter three-position event, but she decided against competing in two Olympic events.

She is aware she could got into labor any moment now, although she said she hopes to win an Olympic medal before the baby comes.

"If I won the medal, I will see this is as yours as you helped mummy so much," Taibi said. "Maybe you give me more strength, more stability and more confidence."

I love stories like this. This reminds me of the spectator from the Bahamas at Lillehammer who found out there was no Bahamian Cross-Country Skiing Team (go figure, right?). He borrowed some equipment and was able to enter. He finished last, of course, and probably fell down a couple dozen times. But he competed in the Olympics, which is more that me or you can say.

Is somewhere outhere.
Best bits of yesterday for me were that Chinese girl breaking the world record in the Swimming, and Vinikourov winning the
Cycling Stage event.

Pretty dissapointed in the British media in how they expect every British athlete to pick up a medal, when they simply aren't
good enough. It sort reminds me of Englands past expectations of winning a major soccer championship back in the day

Congratulations to the French and Russian men's swimming team in the 4x100m team freestyle over the heavily favored Aussie and American teams, that was epic on the French team. That third leg and the stream-lining off of the American swimmer really gave them that break... best swim event so far in my opinion!

Gold - French; Silver - USA; Bronze - Russia :bravo:

I wish that I could get into it. Every USA basketball game is going to be broadcast twice. Swimming, diving, track, and gymnastics. That's the flood of games broadcast here. I'm tired of them. Those names will be forgotten about in 2 weeks. I want to see all of the other stuff. Like 2 years ago NBC showed that game where they slide a tea kettle across the ice and they had those brooms. That was cool. Watching little countries battle it out is nice too. Kenya and Jamaica running all over for their share of medals is good also.

God bless the Brits for taking this task on. A billion dollars for the best light show ever. Every seat with lights coordinated for a presentation. But 4 hours was just too much to endure on TV.

They have every event streaming live on the website. If there were no commercials, I wouldn't mind the less-than-stellar quality of the video. But there are commercials, so the video sux monkey testicles (at least on the fast moving sports). And it is just killing me where you click on the thing that explains the sport.....and it's all text. No pics of the equipment, no details, just text.

There's a pretty nice little volleyball match going on between the US Women's team and the Brazilian women's team at the moment. I understand the love for beach volleyball, obviously, but as a sport it has nothing on the team game in my oipinion.

Congrats to Emilie Heymans and Jennifer Abel for winning Canada's first medal, a Bronze in synchronized diving. Emilie won medals in 4 straight Olympic Games.

Yannick Agnel claimed Olympic gold in the men's 200m freestyle final, with Ryan Lochte finishing out of the medals in fourth.

A-Rod and Isner advance. Unfortunately the Williams's do too.

lol

A-Rod and Isner are not expected to win any medals but the williams sisters (two of the most successful "american" sports women of all time) are favourites in singles and doubles.

They are all "American", so you like losers and hate winners. Why scott? lol :hairpull:

I tried watching womens volleyball, but the fact that they high five after every point they get, and every point against them pisses me off.

On another note, Canada is garbage at the summer Olympics. Here's hoping for 10 total medals.

I know, right? What the fuck. Get some medals, bitches.

On a side note, it seems that Canadian athletes are trained to come in fourth, in order to not offend anyone.
