Die For Me
Just got back from day 1 of the ASB Classic (a couple of hours ago) :nanner:

Got lots of pics on my camcorder(281), so its not HQ stuff. Might be getting a digital camera soon...

Arrived with second row seats and Kuzzie was on the practise courts :)
The UoA Business School is visible on the left of the 1st and 4th pics.

Sania Mirza/Sabine Lisicki was the first match, although it was part of qualifying.
Lisicki rolled the first set 6-1, then Mirza came back, winning the second in a tie break, only to lose in a third set tie break 7-5 after being up 5-2.
She smashed her racket afterwards and the handle broke off :o No pics of that though sawee.

Next was Kuzzie vs NZ number 1 Sacha Jones. Sacha was aggressive from the start (suppose you have to be against a former world number 2) and hit some nice forehands. Kuz was too classy in the end though and won 6-4 6-2.

After that, the NZ number 2 Marina Erakovic teamed up with Swede Sofia Arvidsson to take on Tamira Paszek and Simona Halep (the breast reduction girl).
She has become a lot less 'recognisable' since the surgery(in all white) ;)
Although Simona has been on the rise lately, Erakovic and Arvidsson beat them down 6-2 6-1. Yeah

All that paled in comparison to the main event, Sharapova vs who cares?(I mean, Alberta Brianti :D)
She was originally going to play Carla Suarez Navarro, but there was a change of plans due to the withdrawal of one of the seeds.
Masha looked rusty at the start at she began with a hardfought service game win, but got into gear later on. She did have trouble closing both sets though.
Brianti was slicing most of her backhands back and was generally on the defensive most of the time.
Maria wasnt actually as loud as I expected until near the end, maybe the sound pickup between live and TV affects it :dunno: But even so, she was the loudest player that day.
(particularly proud of the third shot down. Service Animal :D)
Sharapova wins 6-2 6-3

The last match I saw was between the 40 year old Kimiko Date Krumm and Katerina Bondarenko as part of the night matches (although it wasnt actually dark until the second set. Daylight saving time )
I didnt get any decent shots of Kimiko unfortunately, she is pretty cool being twice the age of half the field
Bondarenko wins 6-4 6-3

...and that was Monday done :hatsoff: I'm going back on Wednesday, then there is 3 days worth in the Heineken Open mens tournament (including the final. Could be Isner/Ferrer/Nalbandian to name a few?)
I know there are 6 links there, but give me a break eh? plzzz

Cilic continue in miserable form

lost in 1st round in Chennai against Nishikori.

the japanese is no dumb, but Marin was no. 2 seed with a very easy half of the draw...

he was defending the title, so he'll lose 250 points and drop to no. 15 (maybe 16 if Mardy Fish do a great run in Brisbane).

he sucks since his SF in Oz last year. Too bad. A lot of people thought he was the next Delpo. It seems like the next Berdych (too much hype, and too much disappointing)...

:(

Kuzzie lost in 3 against Shuai Peng!
Sharapova won in 2 against Voracova. There were six consecutive breaks of serve in the second set (7-5)!
Roger is bored of traditional tweeners, so is doing them facing fowards now!

Roddick's search for the second Slam

http://espn.go.com/sports/tennis/blog/_/name/tennis/id/5987456/roddick-search-second-slam

I have steadfastly believed that Roddick, with his unique serve and relentless fight, would win another major. But with his injuries mounting and his opposition improving, I'm changing my tune. If I could say one thing to Roddick, who has done everything in his power to position himself for success, it would be what Sean (Robin Williams) said to Will (Matt Damon) at the end of "Good Will Hunting": "It's not your fault."

Well, except for that routine backhand volley (wimbledon 2009).

i have to agree :(

Federer destroys Troicki in Doha QF

6-2, 6-2
So much for the Davis Cup hero...
Roger got 4 or 16 break points, and Viktor... 0 of 0

Now Roger will face Tsonga, who is playing great, giving that he's coming from a long and bad injury. Roger should prevail, anyway. ;)

watch it, raFANatics: Kolya is coming!

why? you might said...

BECAUSE... kolya has won their last three meetings, he's 5-4 overall, and he's 5-1 in hardcourts.

that's the bad news for Rafa

the good ones?

Kolya is coming from a deep slump. And Rafa is coming from the year of his career.

Either way, amazing match to watch ;)

and he did! 6-3, 7-6 :nanner:

Roger looked very strong, winning more that 80% points with his serve, and without facing a single break point, for the 2nd straight match.

the half of FeDal is done... i wouldn't say is 'for sure' that it's gonna happen, but... we will see how kolya does.

Rafa is in deep trouble: set down, and double break down in the 2nd set... and with pain (he even called the trainer)...

Kolya is waking up from his horrendous 2010... he's remembering how he played in the last months of 2009 and beginnings of 2010. Good for him.

He had a fever. The loss doesnt mean much in the big picture.
Nadals build-up tournament results arent totally indicative of how he will do in slams.
Examples: SF @ Toronto, QF @ Cincy....Won US Open dropping one set.
Or more specifically- QF @ 09 Doha... Won Aus Open without dropping a set in the first five matches.

Its only a problem if the sickness sticks around.

Greta Arn won the ASB Classic. Surprise winner
She was a 31 year old qualifier that beat players like Maria Sharpova, Julia Görges and Yanina Wickmayer to win the tournament.
Her coach didnt even come since it was too far away, and her luggage was lost on the trip
Its her second final and title after Estoril in 2007

Davy no chance, Roger best class.

yeah

it's his 67th career title, 4th in the last 2 and a half months.

He's playing like the way he's playing since Toronto (August) 2010: superb.

He's really the favorite to win the Australian Open, no doubt. Rafa comes in a near second, and then would be Soderling, Nole and Murray.

For Kolya, it's good news as well: he seems to be back on track, after a bad 2010. If he gets an easy draw, might get into the QF Oz, which is good at this point.

It's his 3rd career title, first in 9 months. For Malisse, it was his first final in four years.

Soderling won the ATP 250 of Brisbane

http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2011/01/1/Brisbane-Sunday-Soderling-Wins-Title.aspx

It's his 7th career title, 2nd in the last 2 months (Paris). This year could be his best in Oz (a 3rd round would do the trick).

For Andy, it was his first final in 9 months, and that's good news for him.

Always look forward to the Aussie and seeing all the Aussies sweat like crazy as I am in the darkest point in the year and the coldest as well where I'm at. Was -5 waking up the other day. Cold here, where I'm at, and WARM there, as it's Aussies' summer. Of course I get a bit jealous and wish I could flight over there from LA.

Anyway, as always the most I look forward to are the lovely ladies and their sweaty pussies I only wish I could get into after their matches.

Anybody think Mattek-Sands might be a LONG darkhorse as she played pretty damn solid against Henin at the Hopman?

Don't know, but I am looking forward to it as always. I always love the early matches the best because they are awesome and of course we get a ton of them and get to see a bunch of players we never get to see.

I think my DirecTC might have that awesome 8 court package so I will be able to check out tons of tail. ;)
