I dunno about the best in Baseball, we are top 5.

But Basketball and Football...if we were to make 5 teams...all of them would be in the top 5 in each sport.

Can you imagine if our best athletes chose soccer (er....football. Sorry.) instead of football (American football), baseball or basketball? There'd be no stopping us. :thumbsup:

I went to School with Thomas Tapeh (Eagles RB [yeah, you probably knew already from another thread:o])). Was cool with him. This kid was a genius soccer player. He might've been good enough for the USA, but at least the MLS. We will never know. He didn't even start playing football until HS and still went pro. If our country was a soccer-based country there absolutely would be NO stopping us. We don't even have nearly as many hockey players as the Canadians and we are already right at the top with them. :tongue:



Oh yeah, of course the USA FTW. I take them with a 2-1 win as well. They have to carry that momentum over with them from the last match.

Well, today, I would be fine with both outcomes. It would be great if at least one african team would stay in the tournament.

Yet, it would be great for soccer in the USA if they would make it at least to half-finals!

I wonder how much Europeans really want us to do at football. Sort of like Americans looking at the global take to basketball and baseball, both now pretty popular world wide. I think Europeans have a revulsion to the idea of America being a perenial contender or dare I say some decade or more down the road a new Brazil. Kinda like how Canadians have a sort of disdain for Americans and hockey.

I think Ghana will win but the USA could beat them , but the USA wont get by Uruguay or Sth Korea in the next round if they get through , these two teams will be too strong

I'd like the US to be some kind of an outsider, the kind of team that has no chance to win the World Cup but can get to quarter or semi-final.

Since (and not including) Chile '62, there's been 10 World Cup. Only 7 teams went to a final : Brazil, Italy, Germany, Argentina, England, Netherlands, France.
I don't think the US could become the 8th. Not this years, not before a very long time. Neither any African, Asian or South American country (except Brazil and Argentina). There's only one team that I tink may get to the final quite soon : Portugal.

I don't think any nation in which soccer is not a major sport could become a major nation of soccer.

More like you're in denial. You've clearly never been to the States and know what sports mean to our culture. If and when we want to be the best on the planet at something, we do it.

We are a culture of multiple-athlete kids. I played no less than 5 sports at an organized competitive level growing up. I also dabbled in a couple other. It's not uncommon for kids in America to be two, three, four or even five sport athletes.

This is not the case in some third world shithole like Uruguay where all the boys do for leisure is play football. Get over yourself. Get with the picture. :wave2:

I enjoyed the USA games , they were a breath of fresh air but being the next Brazil? :1orglaugh

BTW I have been to the USA before and I have relatives and friends that live there :hatsoff:
