1It's hard to believe that if Pete Carroll felt he had something to prove to "the critics" about his NFL experience that Saban doesn't or won't feel the same thing even more

I wonder if Pete is just trying to jump ship from the sinking ship that is USC.

rumor is Pete Carroll will be the next Seahawks coach possibly by monday.
Jeff Fisher and Jack Del Rio both former players are the supposed front runners to replace Pete if he leaves

Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker!
ESPN is reporting that Pete Carroll is closing in on officially signing the head ocaching contract with the Seattle Seahawks

Saban was pissed about having gatoraide on his shirt.

He is one of those guys that is never happy. He can't even smile. Life is too short to be an asshole.

Last touchdown was uncalled for. Seemed clear he just wanted to run it up because people would say, "what if"?

Semi-agree about the last touchdown, but the thing that makes Saban a great coach is that he pushes himself and his players no matter what the "accomplishments" are that have been reached. I read his book, very inspirational and some great pointers to succeed in anything. He's the only coach in 70 years to win a MNC at two schools, pretty impressive.;)

The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
Whaaaaat? Dude, Colt McCoy is ONE player. Texas didn't make it to the National Championship because of one individual player. Is he a good player? Yes, absolutely. But, they're still a good team without him. Their backup had a rough go for the first little bit of the game, but he caught fire and, for all intensive purposes, played just as well, if not better than Colt McCoy would've played. So, what did they really lose in the sense of talent and productivity? Not much. And, every single title that has ever been won in the history of sports is a "what if" championship.

Chef, you really don't know anything about college football. Does anyone here actually agree with this quoted passage? Do you have any clue how many years of college ball Colt McCoy started for Texas? You may think College is a simplistic game compared to the NFL, but this quoted passage is ridiculous to even consider. Bama gave up in the 3rd Qtr. Bama woke up when the score got close in the 4th. They woke up and smaked down Texas and the freshman QB. That's what happened. It would've been a different game and maybe a Texas win if McCoy played the entire game.

Your example what ifs are nothing more than inaccurate hypotheticals too, btw. When has someone been knocked out of a championship game and the backup has come in to win the game? Tom Brady had an entire season to replace Bledsoe. He didn't come in during the Super Bowl and win it for the Pats.

I think Pete Carroll would be a complete FOOL to jump to Seattle merely to be the coach. Yes it's basically a huge pay raise but if he doesn't get player personnel decision-making...he's a bigger dope than I thought he was:dunno:

Gotta be something more than that.

Florida State gave up 14 Ws for team-wide academic fraud. Bush's situation and Joe McKnight's situation hardly merit anything more than giving up Ws and, fine, Bush gives back his Heisman which is a Reggie Bush/Pete Carroll humiliation moreso than a USC humiliation. There have been quite a few players being academically ineligible under PC throughout the years, but that is an internal school issue, not a broader NCAA issue.

If the NCAA were to put the team on Bowl probation for 2 years, that wouldn't be a death blow to the program either.

No drugs, no violence, no academic fraud....USC might need to be slapped around a bit but that's it. Tim Floyd was a much more of a loose-cannon corrupt coach than PC was...

The Falcons were interested in giving him total control. The Chargers were too. I think he even met with Wayne Huizenge of the Fish at one time...

I have no problem with him getting complacent at SC and looking for a new challenge. I guess I'm surprised he'd settle to be just the coach :dunno:

To me, it's a quality of life issue.

I don't know of a single coach that enjoyed the NFL over college. Hell, even Jimmy Johnson said he enjoyed college more.

Hmmmm....I'm not sure, t-rock. I mean, McCoy only won more games than any other QB that ever played college football. I'm not sure that would have made any difference really since Gilbert did have quite a bit of experience under his belt....26 total passes before the title game I believe!

All cynicism aside, Gilbert did an admirable job of filling in under extremely difficult circumstances but the absence of Colt McCoy was without question an immeasurable influence in the outcome of the game. I'm not saying that Texas would have necessarily won had he been in there, I'm only saying that their chances of winning would have been substantially enhanced.

Time to move on....it's over.

What if the Buffalo Bills were 5 yards closer to the endzone when Scott Norwood kicked his infamous field goal attempt? Would he still have missed it or would he have made it and given the Bills their first Super Bowl title?

What if Tony LaRussa left in Dave Stewart to pitch in the 1988 World Series instead of relieving him with Dennis Eckersley in the 9th inning? Would Kirk Gibson still have hit an infamous homerun or would he have hit a routine grounder to the second baseman?

What if Maurice Clarett didn't strip the ball out of Sean Taylor's hands after he made, what appeared to be, a game changing interception? Would Ohio State still have won the game in overtime or would Miami have won the game in regulation?

What if there were better camera angles and instant replay when Franco Harris made the Immaculate Reception? Would the catch and the touchdown still have counted or would the call be overturned and ruled an incompletion?

:dunno:

What if Payton Manning isn't the QB of the Colts?

I'm pretty sure the Colts would still be one of the most dominate teams this decade. He is just one guy.

C'mon Will. With Curtis Painter as their QB???? Surely you jest....Manning IS the Colts!!! His importance to that team cannot be overstated IMO. Perhaps the greatest QB talent to ever play the game and he ain't done yet.

The hardest position to play in sports is QB. No other sport relies on one person other than a goalie in hockey or soccer among major sports, but they do not run either the defense or offense.
