2009 NFL Draft

Yea for the Lions...I can now say that I'm a proud Detroiter!! That pic almost guarantees us the 1st pick in the next few drafts so we can continue stockpiling useless offensive players. But hell, nobody said building a winning team was easy. At least we are a little more than halfway through our 100 year rebuilding plan...Superbowl 2057!!!!! Go Lions

I just got home from working in Manhattan today on 50th st and 6th ave. by Radio City Music Hall is where the draft is at.
All you can see is people lined up around the block and wandering the city in seas of different NFL Jerseys!
The NFL has blocks shut off for various NFL Experience Booths and activities for kids and grown ups as well......The NFL is one of the the best run and most profitable "businesses" in the world bar none!......they know how to make something as boring and tedious as a draft like a national event!!

This is insanity- the draft has really become a frightening animal over the years. The rumors, speculation, and overall fervor over on the chiefs forum I frequent has turned into name calling, threats to peoples' mothers, warnings of nuclear attacks, etc.

All that for KC, who drafts- no shit- ONE guy today, unless they trade down.

I think some people need to just calm down.

H

KC just offered Detroit their 3rd overall pick for Detroits 20th and 30th overall picks. Looks like the money Detroit gave Stafford is scaring teams off already.

I think we're all getting a bit ahead of ourselves with our chest-thumping proclamations about BUSTS and HALL OF FAMERS. Matthew Stafford doesn't have to be a Hall of Famer for the Lambs to make back that $40mil. All he has to do is lead the team to 3 wins this year...and 6-8 next year and I think people in Detroit will call it a good pick. MIke Williams and CHarles Rodgers were actual utter busts for the Lambs. I think Matt Stafford will be a starter and a QB like a Chad Pennington type--someone who might not win a SB but can play the game. There have been plenty of QBs who get drafted in the 1st round and literally can not play the game--Drukenmiller, Akili Smith, Vince Young...etc.

The only reason I say Stafford is a bad pick is because of the crop of QB's next year. It is loaded. Bradford, McCoy, Tebow, Lefeuvor (sp?). I don't think he'll be a bust, but they would be successful much quicker had they built O-Line and then QB. Rhett Bomar is projected to go in the 4th rounds. He's sic. They could have build a solid foundation with their top 3 picks and gone QB later.

Rhett Bomar might have arrogance/attitude issues. I remember all the hype around him though. Similar to Brock Berlin hype.

I do like Bradford and McCoy. I don't think Tim Tebow can play QB at the NFL level. He seems more like a future TE, imo.

Chris Berman: "Is there any extra special pressure being the #1 overall pick.." Geezus Berman. Talk about Master of the Obvious questions....

Gee. Stafford just signed a $40mil deal in the worst economy since the Depression and has the hopes of an entire city on his shoulders. Yeah. I guess there's some pressure on him...:1orglaugh:mad::rolleyes:

I hope Detroit knows what they are doing. Everybody is saying they can have an Atlanta-esque turn around, drafting a QB and then defense the rest of the way.

Bobby Layne said Detroit wouldn't win a Super Bowl for 50 years after being traded in 1958. Well this was the 50 year anniversary. Time to turn this thing around and field a respectable team.

Based on that report...it sounds like St Louis are penniless! Maybe they'll skip the draft and save their money?:1orglaugh:rolleyes:

Will Sanchez be among today's first 5 ? Yes

Do any of you guys see Sanch as being an immediate team leader / impact Qb in his rookie season reminiscent of Ryan / Roethlisberger type ? I do

Can you guys name on one hand without research, 5 (obviously) NFL Qbs that made an immediate impact in their rookie season other than Ryan or Roeth. ?

Atlanta were sniffing around the playoffs and were in a recent Super Bowl. There will be no "atlanta-esque" turnaround for the Lions. Hell...5 wins would be something special. They need to hit on every pick in this draft.

I think he will be a solid NFL QB. Maybe better than Carson Palmer. BUT..it depends on where he goes. :dunno: Let's wait and see who grabs him. If Tampa grabbed him then I could see him having an immediate impact although I honestly know nothing about the Bucs new coach.
