2009 NFL Draft

Well basically at the halfway point of the draft...the Winners I see are

Miami --really dig Pat White and Patrick Turner. Bill Parcells is pretty much "the man" so their collection of picks at this point all look like keepers.

Cincy--hard to believe this but the Bungles might become the nastiest, meanest team in the entire league with this draft. They are taking some HUGE PLAYERS who all are being described as "mean" in their writeups. Maybe it's time to buy stock in the Bengals.... The OL players are massive. Carson might need only one jersey for the entire season! Let's hope none of them get in trouble with the law....

Cleveland--pretty much solid picks thus far. All should play next season. So long Braylen Edwards hello Mohammed Massaquoi...

San Fran--though only 2 picks thus far--could have the 2 Rookie of the Year candidates on offense.

The Losers--

The Raiders--obviously. This is possibly setting up as the worst draft ever.

The Broncos--If only you actually needed Moreno:rolleyes::dunno: If this is the draft of the new coach...it is very suspect. Alphonso Smith is the only player I see as an instant difference maker. Notre Dame has no NFL talent, why waste a pick on a domer? Certainly there was somebody better out there...

San Diego--I guess they are "addressing needs" but I don't think Gates can be the #1 passing option again...

Kansas City--an awful lot of DL players. Is Dorsey a bust then? Don't you need SOMEONE to do SOMETHING on offense for Matt Cassel? Yikes...prepare for a lot of 10-7 games in KC this season?:dunno:

Pretty much the entire AFC West have seen their drafts go up on flames at the midpoint.

Good old Al Davis. People have to know he's going to do something crazy by now.

Also remember when Denver was actually one of the better run organizations in the league,...like before this year? :1orglaugh

Did anyone see that stupid pick the Raiders selected in the 2nd round? The guy didn't even have a highlight package! Lol, Mel Kiper projected him to be a free-agent or a 7th rounder. I think there's a bunch of monkeys in that front office.

With all do respect to Mr Kiper ,and in the words of Bill Polian(Colts); "Who is Mel Kiper? What has Mel Kiper done in this League?":D

Statistically most of these guys they are ranting over will be lucky to make any serious contribution in the NFL. So for Kiper & the experts to rip apart Al Davis for not picking a certain player(a few spots down) is madness. No one knows who will make it .

He picked the "can't miss" Left tackle Robert Gallery & he was a relative bust & the Raiders have hid him inside at guard. It is shameless that they trash the Raiders picking Bey while the guy & his family are watching live & trying to enjoy the happiest day of this guys life.

I value Al Davis opinion over Mel Kiper. I doubt if they had much highlight reel of Jerry Rice either.

When I first saw we drafted Alphonso Smith I was upset, mainly because we passed up on Rey Malaluga. But, doing my research, I found out Smith was actually a good pick.

But, I totally thought this entire draft was to address the front seven, corner, and back up QB... But we picked RB, TE, Offensive lineman, WR, and 2 safties... WTF?

There is no such thing as a can't miss person, and even the best people miss, but there is certainly safer picks than others, and people that's skill and performance so far would logically indicate they have a better chance of working out. Not only that but if anybody else actually thought he was better they would have did the sane thing and traded way down when they have to know nobody else is going to take them there, got more picks, and saved money on the contract for them while still getting the player they wanted. Things like that must not occur to Davis. Davis credibly has been very suspect for over a decade now and probably even longer that that, and after running the worst team in the league not named the Detroit Lions for years, and being personally responsible for almost all his teams bed decisions, he shouldn't get the benefit of the doubt that teams like New England, Baltimore, Pittsburg, or Indianapolis who draft well most of the time might get. Of course the people that run those teams are also less likely to do dumb things in the first place.

Davis is also the type of person that has gotten to the point where he is no longer capable of even seeing that he no longer knows what he is doing and is over his head, which makes it all the worse. A lot of other owners would have at least come to grips with that and handed decision making to others that had gotten better than they were.

Yep. Now the Lions'll win big. Now all they have to do is draft a GM and a reasonable coach...oh, and some other positions, too.

Well you're right about Robert Gallery, Girk. He was touted as the #1 - #5 pick back in that draft and he has been a miserable bust thus far.

I don't see the kind of 2-3 year post draft analysis on ESPN that makes Kiper and McShay and any other "guru" accountable. What if the agents of players send Mel Kiper or McShay 5 digit checks in the mail to "grade my guy" higher and tout him to be in the first or second round? Is there anything *illegal* about agents sending Kiper checks to hype their players on ESPN air? I don't think so. I don't see how Kiper or McShay would be caught actually.

Having said this...The Raiders are still having the worst draft on record, I believe.

Perhaps the Raiders attempted to trade down from the 7th pick ,but there were no takers? So the reciever he wanted most was on the board & he took him. I have never trust Spread offense QB's & Wr's like Crabtree/Maclin anyhow who put up those big numbers in college. Davis went with speed/size/athleticism & a guy who played in a 'pro set'
offense. Crabtree & Maclin may both be better than Jerry Rice ,but..........

The so called experts are trashing the pick of Heyward-Bey with a virulence uncalled for on this young man's special day. The 2d rd pick also.

The media has found a whipping boy in Al Davis although he has one more Super Bowl appearance this past decade or so than 60% of the league including the: Broncos,Browns,Saints,Dolphins,Bills,Jets,Chiefs,Chargers,Packers,Jags,& on & on,etc........Perhaps two(2) Super Bowl appearances for Al Davis(Raiders) within a decade had it not been for the disastrous Tom Brady 'tuck rule' fumble.

Based upon Al Davis' history I am more apt to respect Davis opinion over Kiper & his little clones. We won't know for years ,in most instances, who were the correct picks.

Mel Kiper(& clones) absolutely trashed the Colts for taking Edgerin James over Ricky Williams a few years back, but as it turns out it was the right pick for them. They knew what type of player they wanted. That is the biggest one I can remember real well, but there are many more.

It takes several years or more to evaluate a draft(most would agree) so these big statemets on the same day of the draft are a bit over the top so whether this is the worst draft on record is open.

I would put money that this Raiders draft will probably turn out(statistics) as good/better or at least no worse than more than half the teams in the league.

49ers keep drafting offense. WR, RB, QB, TE and an ILB. :dunno:

I'm surprised nobody has taken Chase Daniel yet. I always liked him in Missouri.

Based on this information---if the 2009 draft picks are as bad as everyone believes--the 2009 draft will rival the Raiders' 2004 draft as worst draft ever. I don't believe a single player from 2004 draft is still on the team other than Gallery. The 2005 Raider draft was pretty good for the team. Most of those players are still on the team. What is Tuiososopu still doing for the Riaders??

Ironically the same experts(Kiper & clones ) blasting Davis(Raiders) were the same ones praising the Raiders for a very good 2004 draft & making the 'safer'; picks:rolleyes: Kiper gave them a B & some even gave them an A at the time.:1orglaugh Goes to show you the inexact science this is & what nonsense to judge the picks on the same day they are made. Ask the Bucs, Vikings & Ravens about 2004.

Jake Grove just signed a $30 million contract from the Dolphins/ Bill Parcels.

Al Davis has had one(1) Super Bowl appearance & another one potentially taken away due to the 'tuck rule'/Tom Brady. That is more than one can say for most of the NFL.

Vick wants back in the NFL if by having Dungy vist him help his cause thats what Vick wants, because it's all about the money.

i watched the NFL newtworks coverage of the draft and i didn't miss the ESPN coverage at all. although it wasn't perfect the NFL guys tried to be fair and John Gruden was fun to watch
