The Dallas Stars should have been named the "South Stars" or "Lone Stars," but I think Norm just was a bitch like that. He probably had the right to the name which might be why we are stuck with the now worst name in pro sports. And for sure the North Stars unis are among the greatest the league has known. :******:

There was talk of naming them the "Lone Stars" but for some reason they went with just the plain ol' "Stars". I loved the old unis like the one Dino wore for so many years as a member of the Minnesota North Stars.

They were the best. It holds a special place to me for obvious reasons. Went to a few games at the old Met when I was a squirt.

The Dino is probably the most famous of the Stars jerseys. You'll see it around town mostly.

Need my Wings to get the 4 pts this weekend vs. the Blue Jackets in a home/home series.
Last time I was able to see them on TV was the west coast Kings game where Jimmy stood on
his head several times.
Recent Media reports indicate that the youthful D is performing well and B. Smith has returned from injury.
I am worried that the Wings have a tendancy to play down to the the level of compitition they face.
Columbus fits that bill.

The Wings have been playing great hockey in recent days. I think most teams have a tendency to relax a bit against lesser foes. It's human nature.

Side note: Congrats to the Hawks on their awesome performance during the streak. If I'm them, I'm glad it's over. Coach Q looked relieved a bit at the post-game interview. Whoever said "You can't win 'em all" knew what he was talking about....except for the '72 Dolphins.

ESPN's broadcasts with Gary Thorne and Bill Clement were terrific. The loss of that TV deal has hurt the NHL badly.

Wow I remembered the ESPN NHL hockey games being aired but I didn't remember much about the announcer / color who did the games now that you mention Thorne / Clement I had a flashback / recollection of those great days, and your right, I remember them doing the games and I loved them. they were very good. I truly miss them doing NHL games.

The Wild's new division situation works for me. It's about as logical as it could be. Now...just BRING BACK THE NORTH STARS NAME FOR FUCK'S SAKE and we can get those old Norris Division rivals back legitimately.





The good old days - NHL2Nite was best with John Buccigross, Melrose and Chicken Parm.

Yeah I wasn't much of Minnesota fan but I did like their uni's those sweaters were cool as hell. and I loved the games with the Red Wings, maybe not as much as Black Hawks / Red Wings, Blues / Red Wings but it was still fun watching the NS's and Red Wings play in the old Norris. and NHL tonight was awesome now that you mention it and I remember that ESPN NHL show, and I certainly did love watching that show as well.

Yeah I was gonna mention that the young Detroit D-core has started getting pretty good considering their off-season loss of their BEST and maybe the 2nd or 3rd best D-man they HAD on their roster. The youngin's have started to play well even gain some confidence, there getting kind of STINGY again, and with Howard standing on his head again / playing great the Red Wings D has been playing great. If we had a little more scoring punch on a regular basis we'd be a pretty well balanced team. and your kind of right about playing down to the level of competition, but I think a lot of that was the D's going through growing pains as well, we'll see how consistent the Wings play the rest of the shortened season. as of right now they might not be as BAD or mediocre we thought they maybe this year. our team is on the younger side now / with a couple of veterans, not vice / versa.

Thankfully Detroit's fall-off my not be as bad as we were initially thinking it maybe on the BACK end, nobody will replace what Lidstrom and Stuart brought to our team, but the youngin's are adapting too filling in and playing well cohesively as a group now, and despite their lack of offensive firepower/ some of the guys are showing real promise. and I think we will either get a prolific scoring forward / and another stud D-man either by the Trading deadline (if it's a trade deadline acquisition I am figuring its gonna be 1 of those NEEDS and not both being addressed @ the deadline, I can't see them trading more than 1 or 2 guys @ the deadline so figure on 1 significant addition @ the trade deadline not both needs met by the trade deadline) I think they will make a serious attempt too get complete over the summer via UFA's I am thinking. We'll see. Detroit's starting to play with confidence and playing pretty well. we'll see how they fare. :2 cents:

It took them half a (admittedly shortened) season to have an off night, set and exceeded franchise records, league season start records and the second longest winning streak in league history. Things are definitely in our favor moving forward. Nothing to cry about here.

Now that the "Ooh's and Ahh's" over the streak are done, the Hawks can concentrate on getting to the playoffs and winning the cup, instead of getting caught up in the side distraction.

So, as if on cue, Jackets shut 'em out, 3-0. This has been one of the wackiest seasons I have ever seen so far. The goaltending and defense overall have been sub-par for most teams I would say. The goddamned lockout is to blame for obvious reasons IMO.

Are you kidding? Did you really think they'd go undefeated this season? The fact that it's big news that they finally lost a game makes a huge statement in and of itself (it sure doesn't get much coverage when the Blues get beaten :1orglaugh). I'd be proud and glad if I were a Hawks fan, not sad and ******. It was a great ride for you guys. However, it's bound to have become a huge distraction for the team the longer it went on. Coach Q sure didn't seem sad it was over after the game last night.

Exactly if I was a Black Hawk fan I'd be pretty giddy these days.. What the Hawks did was pretty incredible. With Sharp out we'll see if this is the start of some adversity for the Black Hawks to deal with, I still say anything short of winning Lord Stanley's Chalice; the incredible start, and the records they set are in a sense meaningless or unimportant if they don't complete the awesome ride of destiny, sort of speak. anyway if I was a Black Hawks fan that's the way I'd be asecessing the season when its over.

Don't I know it. Wacky fuckin season thus far. They look great against the top teams more often than not, and then other games they should win, they can't do anything right. Needless to say they've definitely have struggled on the Road this season, they don't have a PP goal on the road this season so far. but their PP is ranked # 1 @ Home? :hairpull:

I mean what kind of **** is that, I seriously don't know what to expect tomorrow for the backend of this Home and Home. this team plays like they are 2 different teams that's the inconsistency that bothers me too no end. :*****:

I'm not going to get too excited about it but the last two Blues wins against Phoenix and San Jose have been impressive considering how they could have simply cratered emotionally after their giveaway loss to the Kings earlier in the week. With Steen, McDonald and Tarasenko all on the IR, guys like Sobotka (he had a hat trick today!), Perron, Berglund and Stewart have really stepped up their games in impressive fashion. Jake Allen has filled in admirably between the pipes while Halak and Elliott try to get their **** together. Hitchcock is an absolute master at getting marginal players to take their game up a notch or two under adversity and his ability to get guys to buy in to his system is uncanny. Still, unless or until goaltending becomes a major strong point for this team at some point, their chances of going deep into the playoffs (hell, they may not even make the fuckin' playoffs! :eek are slim. If we can somehow find a way to beat the Ducks tomorrow (a tall order for sure), I'll start to be more encouraged about the direction this manic-depressive team may be headed. They tease you with periods of excellence mixed with incredible lapses of ineptitude. It is absolute ******* to be a Blues fan!!! :hairpull: :hairpull:

If they lost every game for the rest of the season, there's no question but that they would still be in the playoffs. No chance #9 and 10 win every game from here out.

How amazing would that be? Win the first half of the season in a crazy streak, lose the second half in a crazy streak, still win the cup.
