I have a question for everyone....though it is a little late: Do/did any of you eat anything special for good luck on New Years, and if so.....what? Just curious!

I was raised in "Pennsylvania Dutch" Country......which are really people of German heritage (I actually do have German heritage myself on my maternal grandmothers side....doesn't get too much more German than Ritter, which was her maiden name)....so I never really did get the whole "Dutch" thing....as the Dutch are people from the Netherlands.....but they call Native Americans Indians, despite the obvious fact that they are not from India & the explorers knew at some point they didn't go to India either....so what are you going to do....ha ha ha!

But back to the point, I was raised in "Pennsylvania Dutch" country, and the dish they traditionally eat for good luck on New Years is Pork (roasted pork) and Sauerkraut (usually served on a bed of mashed potatoes)! So, that is what I ate this evening for good luck! It's actually quite tasty.....and almost gourmet food compared to what some people eat on New Years for luck.....ha ha ha! Now, some people try to replace the roasted pork with hot dogs......that's just cheating....and pretty damned lousy too! I never do that!

First I want to say good luck to Nikki on the contest. I really hope she wins at least something.
Second, I grew up all over and did not have any New Year's customs, but after settling along the FL /AL border, everyone down here eats Black-eyed peas (Not the band), hog jowls, and cornbread. I left out the hog jowls.

I knew the reason WHY they called the natives Indians, but I could never figure out why they didn't stop doing it even after it was abundantly clear, even to them, that they hadn't been to India at all! ha ha ha! I'd say probably Tuesday at the earliest. But, I believe she will be quite busy until middle of January with her work schedule & "the move," and everything. What will we do? I guess we'll just have to "hold down the fort," so to speak, until then! Ha ha ha!

Hahahaha. Nothing quite that "exciting" to anyone other than me. I am headed away for a few days with someone and I am going to simply unplug and shut out the world. I will be in bed a LOT and watching movies and eating and cuddling with the doggy. I will be having a nice day with some **** with a friend at the botanical gardens and also meeting up with some friends and just having a small dinner and fun. Really chill and mellow and relaxing. It's just what I need with my crazy intense schedule and work load lately. A few days of relaxation and no computers!

i think i was 3 hours early with my birthday wish to Mariah, so i think ill wait until at least then for Nikki as well. But that doesnt mean Nikki can't tell us what big plans shes got. so how are you going to celebrate soon-to-be-birthday girl? small get together? big birthday blowout? week-long orgy?

Happy New Year to you guys as well as everyone else!!!
No I did not party hard as someone suggested. haha. I have been on cam a lot at my office from my desktop and was just exhausted is all especially from the night of no ***** before. I ***** for like 10 hours last night and feel great today. I have a hair appointment this afternoon and lots of errandsto run and phone calls to return as well as the gym etc. I will prob. be back on cam late tonight also from my office and then appointments ALL DAY tomorrow. One of those appointments is to hopefully get my laptop fixed. They will know more once they get on it and into it. I basically have a **** ton to get done over the next couple of days because I leave town on Wednesday morning (my birthday) tee hee and I will NOT be on a computer for at least 4 days! I need some damn Nikki time. I haven't had a day off in MONTHS and it's my birthday and that is my present to myself!

Oh and as far as science fiction is concerned for those who have been discussing it...meh. I love Science but not fiction. Even the books I read are all non-fiction. i like to learn about stuff. Anything else is just a waste of time for me. If it's REALLY good science fiction than I can get into it. In other words science fiction and stories that are based on actual scientific facts and theories. This is what made the X files so big just FYI....and the movie 2010 etc.

You neither??? I probably had the mellowest New Years in ages for "OBVIOUS" reasons! Other than almost having a heart ****** from a bunch of hillbillies setting off firecrackers HOURS before midnight (ironically none at/after midnight), mine was fairly uneventful.....which, under the circumstances isn't necessarily a bad thing! Ha ha ha!

Even if you finish in 10th place for Miss FreeOnes, that's $100! I see that as a virtual certainty! I just wish the boards were good to use as virtual exit polling! If they were, I'd definitely say you have a great shot (which I still do....though I'm a bit biased)! However, obviously most people who voted likely were not & are not active on the boards at all!

You had the greatest "campaign manager" in the business.....if I do say so myself.....ha ha ha! So, it's IMPOSSIBLE for you to walk away from this contest empty handed!!!

they were probably continued to be called indians because what else are you going to call them? its too hard to know and be able to identify the individual tribes. they werent going to call them americans because the citizens of the united states were americans. plus you know people are lazy

I think by the time anyone was able to realize Columbus had not made it to the West Indies, people had called them Indians so long, it kind of stuck. They were called Indians for about 450 years after all. Keep in mind Magellan's crew did not finish their trip around the world until 1522 or 26 years after Columbus, and they did not have the internet to spread the word quickly.

They were called Indians for about 450 years after all. Keep in mind Magellan's crew did not finish their trip around the world until 1522 or 26 years after Columbus, and they did not have the internet to spread the word quickly.

if they had the internet, they would have realized the vikings had arrived a couple hundred years earlier
