2010 Olympics in Vancouver thread

Kuzmina wins the first gold for Slovakia ever. I'm always happy when the smaller nations win something at the Olympics. That's the special charm of the Games. Not quite as sensational as the fat guy from Tonga knocking out the big shots in the Atlanta boxing tournament but still... :nanner:

Who was it singing? I didn't figure that out.

Her name is Nikki Yanofsky. I think she sings that "Believe" song that CTV/TSN is pushing as the anthem of the games.

I love seeing that too, but what I love more is seeing Australia fluke their way to gold.

Is it just me or was the Georgian contingency an athlete short during the Open Ceremonies? Amiright? Anyone...

:crickets:

I'm watching women's 500m speed skating. Four heats so far, and two skaters have fallen. I'm always dissapointed when athletes mess up; I can only imagine how dissapointing that must feel. In the women's moguls, a woman messed up, but she got back up, put her ski back on, and completed her run. Good for her.

I sure as hell hope Canada gets to win a gold at home for the first time ever.

There is zero chance that we won't.

Apollo Anton Ono! :hatsoff:

No kidding.
Nice to watch the Canadian fall twice in the same race.

At least Jean made it to the final. I don't think he will win, but a strong showing would be great.

When I see the hockey game between Canada and Slovakia I remember a football (soccer) match I played against a student exchange girl from Canada as a youngun. I tried to tackle her... the bruises I carried were a nice souvenir for a couple of weeks

Wow. Ohno pulls a Bradbury and gets onto the podium.

I can't believe my post about the agony of defeat went by without comment. I must be losing my touch.
