I stand corrected, I thought the US has the highest ****** rate. However, it doesn't diminish the connection between the number of guns in legal circulation and the number of ******s commited in either the US or those other countries.

Is it possible to legally purchase a *** in the other countries you mentioned?

There will always be criminals and there will always be victims. Why would anyone voluntarily become a victim is beyond me.
Know your surroundings.
Secure your belongings.
Never go into a dark parking lot or garage alone. Most security personnel will gladly ****** someone to their vehicle upon request.
If you have a can of pepper spray or a taser, know how to use it. Most police agencies will offer instruction on the proper use.
If you own a handgun and a CCW practice drawing and firing at your local range. Almost every range has a Safety Officer or instructor on staff and for a minimal fee will offer instruction.

Most people who perpetrate violent crimes are inherently cowards and someone who shows a willingness to defend themselves will almost always cause them to rethink their plans.

Owning and using a ****** responsibly does keep the general populace much safer than many people realize. It is an effective deterrence and ownership should be encouraged. (Wow I'm closing in on 2000 posts)

The funny thing is that Canada also has a long tradition of hunting and owning guns with iirc 6-7 million guns in circulation yet the crime rate in Canada is only a fraction of that in the US. That should tell everyone something about American society.

I agree that having a *** could be soothing at times, when walking home in the dark or when some random dick tries to start a fight.

But liberal *** laws also mean that the other guy, the one who is messing with me, can acquire a *** as well. And if the choice is between both of us having guns (me being the one not wanting to shoot in the first place) and neither, the latter is what I prefer. Thus far, I haven't come across a single moment in my life where I would've felt safer knowing there were guns around.

When it all boils down to it, there are probably a lot of people interested in weapons out there, and they present any argument they can to defend liberal *** laws. Most evidence though points to a correlation between number of weapons circulating (legal or *******) and an escalation in ******** and ***-related accidents.

The reality isn't that different. When there are many guns in circulation be it legal or ******* criminals have more opportunities to get a hold of a ***.

The bottomline is that you as a person on the right side of the fence think that everything can be resolved by using ***** (and from what I've read you want to resolve everything by using *****). I'm on the left side of the fence and think that using ***** isn't the answer because it doesn't deal with the underlying causes. Can someone please explain to me why Americans feel it is a God-given right for them to own a lethal weapon? Because it makes no sense to me. Permitting any old Tom, Dick and Harry to own a device that could easily inflict deadly bodily harm on another person is not logical. And don't compare *** ownership to ***** ownership. Guns are a lot more dangerous. Plus they are designed specifically to serve as weapons.
