This is Risca, the corner of the world I lived in until I moved to Cardiff 2 years ago.
You have a Cardiff Lounge - nice!
One thing that always strikes me is how boring American cities are. They're so out-of-proportion with no cozy alleys or pointless little trees. Only wide streets going in straight line-patterns. Too organized and dull, but that's probably because they're not that old. Also, they seem really flat with little elevation.
American nature is awesome though. So diverse and with much more spectacular views than Europe.
Well anyway here's the typical Stockholm scenery over Riddarfjärden (Knight's Bay):

I think a big reason that is the case is because many of our cities developed into the huge metropolises they are after the invention of cars and after more complex organization went into cities everywhere in the world. That's why so many of the cities over there have narrow streets. Another reason was, unlike Europe, space was easier to come by so there was no need to build cities on places that people normally wouldn't want them to be built on, like hills not to mention it became easier to build cities higher rather than always having them spread out. Plus by that time there was less strategic military advantage to having the high ground like that and with castles and other fortifications a thing of the past there was no need to build cities around them to support those structures. I do agree with you that our cities aren’t nearly as picturesque. The fact that most of our cities were created using modern plain soulless construction just makes it that much worse.

the 2nd picture is Bingley
the 3rd was taken of Bradford 1993 and it hasn't changed
the 4th is the supposed regeneration of Bradford,they would be better just levelling the whole place!
and the 5th is Great Horton where i live
