You Like Burritos? I Like Burritos. Where Do You Get Your Burritos At?

I like Burritos. Although, I only really ever had one once. I've had Chimichanga a bunch of times, it's awesome. Once I was crossing Piccadilly Gardens in the middle of a massive bender business outing that ended up getting lap dances in Fantasy Bar in us meeting a whole bunch of potential new clients, and we went to Bar Burrito. I had a very spicy chicken one. It was really great. I think we might have had sweet potato fries as well.

Yes, Mexican is great.

Don't think just because I got a lot of money, I'll give you taco-flavored kisses, honey!
Fulfill all your wishes with my taco-flavored kisses!
Taco taco! Burrito burrito!

Chimichangas fucking RULE!!!!!!!

Yes I'm aware there are soft shell tacos but I was just telling him the basic difference between a Taco and a Burrito. The main difference is the meat.

Tony, you ever go to Gilbert's on Pico east of Cloverfield? They do a great 2 flour tortilla wet burrito. Fun place with good margaritas.

El Coyote on Beverly Bl west of La Brea is my favorite Mexican Restaurant. Been going there since I was a kid in a booster chair with my parents. Great rice and beans.

Sadly I didn't but I have been to Olvera Street, that's another place that has bomb Tacos and the best Flautas I've ever tasted, their green guacamole is a revelation even though its a little runny.

Never had a burrito. Don't even know what the difference between a burrito and a taco is. And I wouldn't know where to get either one. We don't have many places that sell them I think. Probably because we rather have a problem with Turks over here than with Mexicans or something.
A burrito would be you and me wrapped in a blanket.

We have a lot of "build your own" burrito places here in Texas now that are really good (Bullritos, Freebirds) but for my money you can't beat the ones at Mission Burritos on W. Alabama in Houston. For fast-food fare, Whataburger's breakfast variety is pretty awesome.

Can't speak for burritos by me but I would like to ask something. What makes SW burritos so special? Is it the type of corn or flour in the shell? The meat? The spices? Something that isn't found throughout the rest of the country? It's well known that our NE water is the secret of our better bagels and pizza crust. What have you got out there for your better burritos?

I think it's just the culture and recipes. Stuff inside burritos is usually very cheap unless you fancy it up. I'm White as a sheet but can cook up some tasty, spicy Mexican Food in my kitchen. I make breakfast tacos when people come over to watch football with some strong coffee.

At the risk of sounding silly, can you provide recipes for good burritos and good breakfast burritos? I'd love to get better at Mexican.

(But seriously, if you could please provide him with some recipes. I love it when dirk surprises me with what he cooks when we're together.)

Dinner Burrito- flour tortilla, meat, beans, cheese, onions, salsa. Add rice or avocado too if you like.
Breakfast Tacos - corn tortilla, eggs, chorizo, cheese, onions, salsa/pico de gallo. Add potatoes or jalapenos if you like.

I came across a handy spice mix that I've been adding to my chilli or potato bakes that is a piece of piss to remember and I thought added a authentic flavour that reminded me of Mexicans I'd eaten at. Equal parts chilli powder, cumin, garlic powder, paprika and oregano. Just the smell is inviting even before it goes in the pot.

But how do you spice the meat?

I'm pretty simple using garlic salt, black pepper, and a little chili powder. There are better recipes online I'm sure. I use either chicken breast, steak/beef roast, or ground beef. Put some cumin in your refried beans.

Something like that, obviously that's got the whole chillis, onions, garlic and stuff in too, but I hardly ever buy a pre-mix if I've got the individual spices knocking around by themselves.

At heart I'm a curry enthusiast so I've always got cumin seeds, coriander seeds, cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, peppercorns and fenugreek seeds for my trusty pestle and mortar, and black mustard seeds, fresh garlic, ginger and chillis. I'm never buying pre-mixed garam masala again. The grinding is pretty therapeutic too.

I think we should spend the weekend together, and make some awesome, damned spicy food together.

Well not a burrito, but I make a good quesadilla.

Corn tortilla made fresh from masa, water, and salt. Roll dough into a ball and press with tortilla press, then fry in dry hot skillet for 60 - 90 seconds per side. Set on a plate under a warm towel so they stay soft.

Deer tenderloin sliced into thin strips fry in a little oil with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Sprinkle tortilla with with your favourite cheese, (my choice is colby and pepper jack) spoon in the deer meat, fold tortilla in half and brown on both sides until cheese is melted.

Serve with home made guacamole, and home made refried pinto beans. I don't think it is very authentic but they are damn good.
