They technically are prostitutes. At least they are tested for diseases and do not have sex with random guys (most of them at least), so they are not really in the same group as the women that one would think of as a "street prostitute".

It depends on what your definition of "prostitute" is. If it's anybody that has sex for money then yes. If it's only people that somebody can go and hire to have sex with them for the act of just basically having sex with them and not for the act of producing some work that just happens to involve sex, then no.

Not necessarily, for them to be a prostitute they would have to be getting paid for the sex and not for something else. I'm not saying that view might not be true or that it's not splitting hairs so fine as to be indistinguishable because it might be, but some might argue that they aren't technically getting paid for the sex like a prostitute is, and if your not getting paid for the sex then the definition above doesn't apply.
