Would you class porn stars as prostitutes?

I know some porn stars do escorting work, but would you not class the hardcore stars who don't escort as prostitutes also?
I mean they are getting paid to have sex?

Prostitutes are paid for the pleasure they provide, whereas pornstars are paid for the performance they provide. Its physical appeal vs. visual appeal. In my book, that puts them on the same spectrum as dancers, strippers, centerfolds, and models in general, rather than prostitutes.

IMHO they are.....
They are paid to provide (indirect) explicit sexual pleasure. Although "we" herein are just spectators doesn't change that. If I see someone screwing a prostitute in the Red Light District it that doesn't change the fact an explicit sexual act is done, although I am not a part of that.
The other thing that strengthens my opinion is that there are a lot of pornstars "doing" side attractions like fucking fans, escorting and such.
So, the way I see it it is virtually the same.

Of course. If you can prove you're clean, and have enough money, I find it hard to believe the vast majority of girls in the industry would turn you down. But then there's nothing inherently wrong with being a prostitute IMO, so I don't consider it a slur.

It becomes trickier when you're referring to the sort of star who only has sex with their partner. Is Wifey from Wifey's World a prostitute? I'd probably say no.

No they are not prostitutes. The point of porn is to produce a saleable commodity to be viewed/consumed privately by adults. There is a thin veil of "performance art" surrounding porn which protects it legally. Some forms of porn are not protected by this distinction.

In the legal sense, pornstars are not prostitutes.

But in the definition of the word 'prostitute', they are.

Definitely. They have sex for money. It's a simple equation. It doesn't matter that some reserve the right to refuse work, so so some high class hookers, and they're still hookers. I don't see it as a bad thing, if the girl enjoys sex and doing it for money gives her no moral dilemma then I say congratulations for doing what probably 99% of the population wishes they could.
