Would 4K Porn be worth it?

While shopping for TV we got into a discussion of whether a 4K TV is worth it. There's tons of info out there, particularly for the lack of 4K content, the fact you need a huge screen to see a difference, etc.

But what about Porn? Being one of the few places you could actually discuss this, I ask the members here: Would it be worth it? Would it even work?

Let's assume that 4K becomes available. At first glance you'd think newer is better, but is that really the case?
Do many of us watch porn on a 60+ Inch screen? Do we really care about seeing the individual hairs and freckles? Would the studios be willing to invest in the tech?
Even watching the demos in store, I couldn't help but notice that almost no one looks better in 4K resolution. You see the makeup, the wrinkles and all the other imperfections.

And what about the actresses? Would they feel comfortable be filmed in such high resolution?

You would be surprised at the number of people who view adult content on large screen televisions.
I think it all depends on the content.

For example, something like this would look amazing on a large screen 4K television.
Especially when its freezing cold and snowing outside and you want an escape from a wife who is past her prime who keeps bitching at you about paying the bills, the utilities and taking the family minivan to the mechanic to get it worked on. :crying:

The link I posted in the above post does not work for some reason. So I will post this picture instead.

4K is the way forward, doesn't matter how you argue about it, it's here and it's amazing, there's plenty of sites featuring their scenes in this resolution, and as for TV, i can't wait to see it on live sports/football!

I am not a fan of too much emphasis on cutting-edge resoluion and other visual tech. The danger is, both makers and viewers get carried away by the possibilities and the hunt for visable perfection and loose on the story, actors performance, passion overall.

Every major porn studio is shooting all of their product in 4K now using RED Digital Cinema cameras and many porn websites are shooting 4K with the latest Sony 4K Professional camcorder. The successful amateur porn sites will begin to move to 4K once the consumer 4K camcorders go wide, possibly next year. Next year will see inexpensive 4K computer monitors flooding the market and more 4K TVs will be on the shelves in time for the Super Bowl and people will be streaming 4K Netflix and Amazon Instant Video in their homes like it's no big deal. Upgrading a PC for 4K is as simple as buying a new graphics card and a monitor to go with it, if you already have a decent PC as it is.

^^^That's it right there!!!^^^ Exactly what this man said!!!

Watching a monkey beating on a trash can with his coconut (or a Real Housewife of Where Ever beating another brainless slut with her shoe), in the highest possible resolution, means so little to many of us. I would rather watch an old movie in 480 than one of these crappy new movies in 1080. And 4K or 5K (I think Apple is selling a 5K iMac now) just means I can see shit better. I don't want to look at shit in low or high resolution. It's just like special effects. Look at an old movie, where they couldn't rely on special fx to carry the movie. They actually had to be able to write and carry a storyline! Man, I wish we could go back to that! IMO, porn is just the same. Boring, tired, play-it-again-Sam, assembly line shit is still shit, whether it's 480 or 4K.

Whenever bluray came out, I could never watch a dvd again. The resolution is just so clear that dvds seem blurry and out of focus. Same with my porn. I only watch 720p or above. I watch stuff on my 55 inch TV and 720p looks good, 1080p looks great. I'm sure 4k is even better, but I haven't actually tried it yet, so I'm not sure if its really worth it or not. I'm sure if I get a 4k TV I will only want to watch stuff in 4k.

If 4K becomes the standard what happens to all the back catalogue videos of sites which were not shot in 4K?
Do they essentially become VHS tapes nobody watches anymore?

Pretty much. A lot of porn content during the "boom" of Internet porn sites and DVD porn was shot in 720P on Canon DV camcorders and very little of it has been remastered from the original digital video tapes at it's native resolution. With today's hardware, remastering that old content and re-releasing it in 720p downloads is not difficult at all, nor is it time-consuming since encoders are more powerful and efficient. Sites like TeenFidelity/PornFidelity, ExploitedCollegeGirls/BackroomCastingCouch, BrokeAmateurs, and others need to go back and redo their older content so that they can continue making money off of it. With people moving to 4K laptops, 4K desktop monitors, and 4K tablets, the older content is going to go to waste because it will be tiny on these new high-resolution displays.

True.
Also if one comes of age and starts watching adult content in the 4K era then anything less than 4K would be painful for them to watch.

Remember that with more resolution comes more bandwidth that's needed to download and store the same length scene. It matters when an industry's product is sold to the public more and more in digital form.

That's not really an issue. Bandwidth had gotten cheaper as time goes by because more broadband infrastructure is going up along with more data centers, while ISPs increase data caps under pressure from consumers who need more for streaming video and audio content. New video codecs are always coming out which are more efficient than what is used now. The general figure tossed out for the next-gen video codecs (HEVC/VP9) that are coming into use next year are around 50% or more in space savings on average and that will only increase as time goes by and software/hardware encoders improve.

Regarding music... I do not even care if it is stereo. I'd rather here a fantastic musician or a good small combo ond an old transoistor radio, as I did for over a year in rehab, no stereo, no tv no internet for personal use in my small room. Just a small radio and classic radio or an hour of latenight oldschool jazz. Or chansons, a Jaques Brel retrospective. The whole HD and 3D craze went over my head and I do not seethe point. If the story is good, it will come across on old VHS cassettes and any screen. It probably won't even need colour, if the makers are good at it.

I don't know where you live or what country you live in, but where I'm at the infrastructure completely sucks, and it's only going to get better in very tiny increments over a pretty long period of time. It sucks across almost the entire US for that matter compared to much of the industrialized world. In addition most ISP providers here are among the worst in customer support for large corporations in the world and have no competition. They are not going to raise speed or data caps out of the kindness of their hearts. Sure, eventually someday it will get better as we will be dragged kicking and screaming into it when they finally have no other choice, but it's not something I would hold my breath for any time in the very near future. There is a reason a large portion of videos out on the internet either don't have great resolution now or don't fill up the whole screen at a good resolution.

Whether we like it or not the old guard will be pushed aside for newer technology.
A new generation of fans will come of age during 4K and will expect nothing less.
Newer actresses will replace the current ones.
