Well, the 2006 Winter Games are under way over in Italy. Are any of you out there a big fan of the Winter Games or is it just me?

And is it Turin or Torino? I've seen it both ways here in the U.S. and I'm kind of confused at this point of what the name of the city is that is hosting the games. :o

Anyway, good luck to all the countries competing from around the world. :turnturn:

I'm more a Summer Olympics fan, winter is too cold for me. :)

The official Italian name is Torino, but geographic names are different in other countries, so in the US it's Turin (also in Germany).
Like for example the German name for Munich is München.

I love the winter games. Luge, hockey, bobsled, skeleton, ski jumping, speed skating and the downhill are a lot more compelling than swimming, diving and track and field. JMO of course....

Thanks Jacksson_77. :o I figured as much, but that clarifies it.

Winter, of course. Gotta love the ice sports:thumbsup:

Amen to that brother !

Winter...Summer...I love them both.

I get really excited whenever the Olympics roll around. To me, they are everything that is good and right about sports. I realize that the Olympics aren't the amateur competition they once were. And sure, they have had their share of doping and other scandals. But, I still think all in all that the Olympics are the most 'pure' form of sport.

Think about it... Last night I watched the parade of nations and saw countries that had only ONE athlete representing them. Kenya and Ethiopia for example each have one athlete...both of them cross-country skiers. Do either of them have a chance of winner a medal? Doubtful... And yet...walking in that parade, carrying their country's flag was probably the proudest, most special moment of their lives. The honor of just competing in the Olympics is enough. And that's something that most overpaid 'professional' athletes could learn something from.

Summer- as theres a more wide range of sports.Which uses a lot more skills on not only a couple of surfaces.

i love to watch Hockey but thats the only thing i like about the Winter Olympics so Summer Olympics are better

Well...another Olympics have come and gone. Now a 2 year wait til Beijing.

I always get kinda bummed out/melancholy when the Olympics end. As I said in my post above...I love the Olympics and watch as much as I can of them. I know a lot of people knock them or are jaded by them...but I still say they are the best of what's good about sport.

Grazie l'Italia! Grazie Torino!

What Wolf said. I have loved the Olympics since '72. And in this day of cable/satellite it's even better. 2 years until Beijing and 4 years until Vancouver. In terms of Winter games, I hope some network picks up Curling, I know OLN already shows Biathlon. 2 years ago I was excited to see fencing get some coverage, but was disappointed by it just being "lunge-and-smack". Still wouldn't mind seeing the lesser sports get more coverage.

Winter all the way - I enjoy every single event; I used to think biathlon was boring, but this year I enjoyed it. I can't think of a single event in the winter Olympics that didn't capture my attention this year, and yeah I'm one of the few who also enjoy curling. lol

It was very enjoyable to watch, and hopefully there will be a DVD collection of highlights or something. I could watch it forever. Amazing. :nanner: :hatsoff:

I prefer summer with basketball, track, etc. Of course, with baseball and softball being out of the mix now, that might alter my view.

I agree, it is going to suck that they are doing away with the 'diamond" sports. I too enjoy the track and field events and basketball. I also love watching the girls in the tight gymnastics suites.

Winter Olympics have some cool events like Snow Boarding and Hockey. Also love anything that has Sasha Cohen in it.
