Why the World Hates America

What a friend so succinctly describes as 'John Waynism'.
Oh, give it a break with the John Wayne already ! He was a late Hollywood icon who epitomized rugged masculinity, a good thing, BTW. What do you want, some Mr Bean type guy to be our star ? lol !

I wouldn't interpret that picture any different if the guy was hoisting 2 surfboards, 2 surf fishing poles, 2 kittens or two Chevy V - 8 shortblocks, for that matter. :dunno:

Architecturally, and structurally speaking the U.S. is an abomination. All those beautiful rivers are being filled with pollutants, the air quality some of the worst in the world, and the rest, well it's strip malls, urban decay and gated McMansion communities which only the wealthiest of the wealthy can apply. As George Carlin put it in one of his stand up acts, "It was nice when we got here, pristine".

God, you are such a mono minded uninformed geek.
I go almost daily out into the countryside, just a few miles outside of the sixth largest city in the USA, and none of it is like your sad and skewed description.
You watch TV, read a Facial-King post, and think you got the low down.
You're not even close ...

some people hate France. what's the point :dunno:

based on my travels around the world, i would say that the "world" does not hate America.

I also don't think the world hates America. I think the world hates how incredibly arrogant it is.

I read the works of engineers, and have studied this at university as well, so it's not as if this view just magically popped into my head all of a sudden from nothing. Anyway this thread isn't about the environmental disaster which is the U.S., but I could point out that they are one of the biggest polluting nations whose handywork extincts thousands of species every year, contaminates international waters with oil spills, dumping of toxic waste, clear cutting of forests, and even worse the introduction of genetically modified crops which are forced onto farmers to purchase and use without any idea of their future effects on the people or the surrounding ecosystem. You want to know what American farmers think? Ask them about the agribusiness Monsanto. Ask them how much better their lives are getting, and how free they are, and how much they love the direction their government has been taking to protect their rights and their land.

China pulls a hell of a lot more natural resources / raw materials out of Afrika than the U.S. does.

The West's exploits in Africa were done by the barrels of guns. China, on the other hand, paid for resources at market values, and forced to take risks in investing in mines where Western companies wouldn't set foot in.

Gimme a break Woodcock. As George Carlin also put it "You speak rhetoric with complete disregard for the facts.
Not one single place in the US shows up on a list to the top 10 most polluted places in the world: http://www.livescience.com/environment/061018_polluted_places.html

I could go on and on about your lack of facts to back up anything but I've gotta run. I have to go mountain biking and then pack for my ski trip tomorrow, but first I'm going to get a glass of drinking water from my faucet:eek:. And I live 8 miles from the downtown of a city with a population of over a million.

In short, you're fucking clueless.

Now, is it "the West" or the "US" you hate? Make up your mind, please...and then tell us how sweet and evenhanded the Chinese are. Please include testimonials from the many Tibetians who agree with your China Love.

Well no shit numbnuts! and they are also the proud home to no less than 16, six fucking teen!, of the 20 most polluted cities in the world. That's 80 percent. 4 out of every 5 of the most polluted shit holes in the world are in China. http://www.impactlab.com/2006/06/12/the-worlds-top-20-most-polluted-cities/

Hurray for China! those champions of capitalism, innovation, and social responsibility!

Oh, and in their never ending quest to honor human rights and be the steward of this planet's well being, just how exactly were they forced to invest in these mines? Was it because all the mines that didn't utilize child slavery were already taken?

I hate people who fail to recognize the negative impacts that their own countries have on the world. The U.S., as most theorists and philosophers of the past century would agree, is one of the worst. What other nations do you see starting wars abroad?

the environmental disaster which is the U.S.,
relative to . . . . ? What about the environmental disaster China ? Don't you remember the reports coming from the Olympics in Beijing ? The PRC government had to shut down local industries in order to clean up the disgustingly filthy dirty smoggy atmosphere. I'm certain that it business as usual today though :cough:

whose handywork extincts thousands of species every year

And I hate people who use selected facts to tell lies...ya know, truthful liars.
Do you really need a list of other nations who started wars abroad?
Did you sleep through the last 10 years? In class?

Hold on there cowboy, if you want facts then ask for them. I said the air quality in the U.S. is some of the worst in the world and it is.

Oil, Pollution and the Kyoto Protocol

"The worlds largest polluter, America has recently not backed pollution treaties to reduce car emissions or petrol consumption. The US alone accounted for 36.1% of worldwide greenhouse emissions in 1990"

"The USA drew worldwide criticism for failing to adopt the greatest international agreement for the reduction of some greenhouse gases, The Kyoto Protocol, which has been accepted by nearly every other country. This is despite the fact that the USA is by a massive margin the world's biggest polluter and very disproportionately so. President bush has repeatedly stated that he will not adopt such protocols if they harm American economy. Commercialism and greed overcome all common sense and thought for the welfare of future generations. This failure causes hatred not only of the Bush administration, but of American commercialism in general."

Yes China has overtaken the US in producing higher emission rates, that I will give you. But let me ask you this, who's business are they taking so that those factories continue to run?

The US is Chinas best customer so to heap all the blame on China cant really be taken seriously because the US and other western nations are a part of the cause and thats not even mentioning our own emissions. Which everyone seems to leave out now because Big Bad China is to blame for it all.

The thread is about America not China, if you want to talk about China start your own thread. Many nations are worthy of criticism, and believe me I am not so ignorant to think that nothing bad happens outside of the American industrial apparatus.

I would like to add that yes, while this is true, who is it that is not only complicit in what China is doing, but who is their biggest trading partner? Gone shopping in the U.S. recently?

indonesia in west papua and east timor is one example. and of course the u.s. totally backed indonesia in these genocidal endeavors, but that's just one of those dirty little secrets no one cares to acknowledge.
No one really cares...what about a few more examples...like Iraq and Kuwait? Afghanistan and 911? Russia and Chechnia? Argentina and GB? Yugoslavia and Bosnia? Etc, etc, etc...

What the hell?! Most of the 9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, and the attacks were not declaration of war by Afghanistan. Aside from Hussein's invasion of Kuwait the U.S. was directly involved in the rest of those conflicts, although you could make the argument that the U.S. was in way one or another responsible for Hussein's actions since the U.S. put him into power.
