The people who caused the problem in the first place are most probably the ones who died when the platform blew up due to their own incompetence, so now, in the time honoured tradition of the USA it is time to play the blame game. Who's fault is it that there is millions of gallons of oil floating in the gulf instead of being nicely packaged into barrels and refined? The real answer is that the people responsible are floating in the gulf along with the oil. As to what a president can do about it - fuck all. He can look as if he is by berating BP, but as BP has a vested interest in capping the flow of oil, this is just a publicity exercise that will not get anything done any quicker. The reality of the situation is that BP employees fucked up big style and it is left to the company to clean up. It does not matter which politician shouts, jumps up and down or criticises BP loudest, the job ain't going to be done any faster. Maybe, instead of wasting breath on telling BP to do what they are already doing, some brains could be used on how best to contain the problem.
