Why ENGLISH is so Hard to Learn

Legzman

what the fuck you lookin at?
some of those were actually kinda hard to read.

so was that a bass painted on the bass drum or just a bass. A bass playing bass would be cool too

It's not that hard if you have an IQ above room temperature.

And in saying that, no offence is meant to those countries that do not have English as their natural language

Aluminium is pronounced as AL-YU-MINI-UM not fucking ALOOMINUM.

There's two I's in Aluminium you know and both are pronounced when the word is said. Otherwise it would be AL-YU-MIN-UM and that is fucked in the head that way of pronouncing it. So says the Oxford pronunciation guide as well.

I've worked as an ESL tutor before. Trying to get Asian people to understand prepositions is just about impossible. In their languages they say things like "I go store," or "I went class and gave my assignment teacher." For them to understand that there has to be a link between a verb and and an object is very cumbersome.

It annoys me when I might use a word that should be understood by my own kind but amazingly isn't. The most recent example I can give is shan't. Somebody, younger than me, thought I was making it up.

English?? What about the Japanese Language>>> ;)

What about it? The only real rule is that the verb comes at the end of the sentence. Yeah, the vocabulary, counters, and verbal inflections are a pain in the ass, but it wouldn't be a 'foreign language' if it wasn't 'foreign'. ;)

I thought English was easy to learn , it just comes naturally to me :)
So do I.

English is an easy language to learn. You wanna learn a difficult language, try French or German.

French wasn't too bad for me since I was able to relate it to Spanish. German, though, that's a hard language.

Synonyms and homonyms... if not more, half of the examples using homonyms in a sentence. that's all. i'm from turkey and i can say we have a lot of those too. so it's not just an english language problem.

i can even guess the more syllabic a language gets, the more "homo" and syno it will have. example: most of the asian languages.

How much wood would a wood chuck chuck, if a wood chuck, could chuck, wood? :)

There's one question that even an English-speaking person can't answer..

'Who put the cunt in Scunthorpe?':dunno:

Which witch wished which wicked wish?

I thought a thought. But the thought I thought wasn't the thought, I thought I thought.

She sells sea shells by the sea shore.
The shells she sells are surely seashells.
So if she sells shells on the seashore,
I'm sure she sells seashore shells.

Yes OK smarty pants there are those in the room who cant quite pronounce these as well as others.

Here Zombie, Zombie, Zombie...
Because people use shortened text typing all day long and when the chips are down, they're screwed for the basics. I deal with it all day long. I was reading an article, off-line, about a motorcycle and there were so many mistakes it wasn't even funny.

Dutch. I keep hearing it's the most difficult of the germanic languages to learn. All I know is as a native english speaker...my cat speaks it better than me whenever he hacks up a hairball.

And I don't think I'll ever manage to get the verb on the end of the sentence without having to think about it first...and I avoid talking in the past tense at all costs. o_O
