Why do people like Nascar?

I am a failure to the Korean side of my family
I am more of a fan of Demolition Derbies how come those don't get televised?

Nascar, like anything else is going to be boring unless you get it. It's not just about going fast. There is teams and strategy involved. Knowing when to pitstop, how many tires to change if you're near the end of the race, etc. I'm not an expert by any means, but I've been trying to watch and learn the past couple years when I can. Breaking it down to going fast and left is like saying soccer is players sitting around on a field and football is a bunch of guys jumping on each other. Like any sport, there's more to it, and unless you take the time to appreciate what's actually happening on the track, court, field or ice, you won't like it.

I would say the same thing about soccer. Unless you're really into it's gonna be boring, it's not a sport for everybody.

Never got into it. I've tried at times but my senses are employed much more by other "sports." My dad does fantasy NASCAR, so he does watch, but I do not. All in all it's probably why some bitches get on us who enjoy soccer. Think I care? Absolutely not. NASCAR is arguably the most popular "sport" in America; Soccer is the most popular sport on the planet. To each his own.

At the Winter Carnival here though when the seasons aren't bastardy warm we have races on the lake over here. It's pretty fucking cool to watch them do the races on the lake when it freezes. That's more like Formula style though, not 'round and 'round on a track. It used to be every year, but a couple of years in recent times it's been so damn warm the lake just isn't safe.

I watch NASCAR for a number of reasons. For one, I love the spectacle...all of those cars going around the track is a really cool sight to behold no matter how old I get. I love the strategy that comes into play throughout the race, from both the drivers and pit crews. Most of all, I dig the unpredictablility; the idea that anyone can win on any given day.

All that being said, the NFL blows it out of the water. :D

I thought it was Football... Is Nascar even more popular than it ?

In terms of TV ratings, NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series ranks as the #2 most watched pro sport in America, behind the almighty NFL. That puts it ahead of the NBA, MLB, NHL and others.

I like NASCAR, but I do believe the attendance is waning.

I have no idea what's going on with Nascar. If I understood the mechanics and tactics involved, I might enjoy watching it. Going to a race, and standing around in the parking lot grilling some food and drinking some beers would probably be the best part.

I'd much rather be at the finish line for something like the Baja 1000 or Dekar Rally, personally. I've been hoping to attend the Baja since I was 18, and even had a VW Bug that some of my friends and I were going to convert into a sandrail/dunebuggy. We unfortunately demolished the vehicle before we ever got the roll bars on. Lol.

I have not made it to the race yet.

I'm a big nascar fan, it's just an adrenaline sport.

I watch old nascar races from the 60's early 70's when it was the time of big old detroit big blocks which were dominating the tracks. Also remembered vividly the fastest car of the 70's, the dodge charger hemi daytona which topped a 200 mph with driver charlie glozbach.

I like NASCAR, but I prefer NHRA. I think part of the appeal for NASCAR is that the cars look similar to what one would see on the street. When they show the cutaway car and explain what is being changed and why, for some there is a better understanding of how their car operates. When you think of how NASCAR was started, there is a certain rebel factor to it. The only racer I don't care for is Jeff Gordon. He'll whine about how unfair it was for someone to bump his car and wreck him. But he did the same to someone else last week and said that was him being competitive and racing hard. Also for some of us hearing rumble of V8s at full power strikes a certain place for some of us. The same as the sound of an F1 car strikes that certain place in others. And yes we like the wrecks as long as no one is hurt. The same way some people started watching Hockey for the fights.

If it makes you feel any better even a lot of longtime NASCAR fans are starting to sour on it, and more of them turn away from it each year. At least in the past it had a small iota of something decent when the cars that were raced had some resemblance to the cars people drove on the road.
