Why are so many people on the internet unfirendly, rude and insulting?

I have asked myself this question so many times, but why is it that way.
Are those people simply bored or are they just trying to troll around?

Besides, do you think that the anonymity of the internet makes those people show there true personality?

agree with you, some are so annoying that u can't even express yourself. agree with you.

Anonymity without a doubt.

Fuckin asshole you!

Because it's the fucking Internet. It's the ultimate cross-section of humanity. The anonymity is part of the so-called negativity sure, but if that's all you're seeing, maybe you're just on the wrong sites.

Besides the obvious reason (we're hiding behind a computer screen so we can damn well say what we please with no worries of getting our butts whipped!) I think an even bigger reason is that we're all humorless computer nerds! Well I'm not. Most are though! I don't really know enough to say if the average porn watcher or those on this site are nerds either. We might just be a gathering of sick freaks without the nerdiness being part of the equation. What's why you have to do things the humperbink way- whenever I sense the tone is getting thick and stinky, I take out a smile, throw down a few odd words to screw up the english language, and I lay down a pretend pinch on the ass for approvable measure!

The other factor is even if the veil of anonymity doesn't affect you personally, and you treat people with the same level of respect or speak to them the say way as if it were real life, other people are more likely to expose themselves to be bigots, hatemongers or idiots (or all three) from behind that said same veil, so you find yourself shooting off angrily far more often than you do in real life, not because you're different but because others are.

A lot of the stuff you read on here, if you heard it said aloud in the street, you'd mutter "oh, you fucking prick" to yourself then just keep on walking. Here, because it's being spoon fed directly into your eyeballs, you're much more likely to post a reply saying "you know what? You're a fucking prick."

That said, the genuine pricks are few and far between, and most are just either on the wind-up, or a bit confused a lot of the time. And I'd rather deal with an idiot than a prick.

I second all that.
And most of the users don't have a sarcasm-detection

To be fair, it is often hard to detect the tone of a post. Verbal conversation makes that a lot easier. People typing, often in texting type short hand (LOL, OMG, etc.) eliminates all subtlety and nuance. The desperately lamentable lack of knowledge about proper punctuation makes it hard, to. For example, someone might say:

Lets eat grandma

You fucking dick. Why would you joke about eating an elderly lady?

Let's eat, grandma!

Oh, you're just calling her to the table.

Now, should someone, such as Will. E. Worm say that he would like mass murders of innocent people so that his point might be proved, that's just him being an absolute monster of a person.

Funny how I mention I like to screw up the english language and I unintentionally do just that by saying "what's" instead of "that"s, lol. I really need to stop coming on here the moment I wake up. I mean literally minutes after I wake up I'm online.

Anyway if it looks like I called everyone on the internet humorless I didn't mean it that way. I promise! I just think the right reaction when people are acting rude and insulting is to smile and completely change the tone of the entire situation by being happy. I figure if you're online and you're not happy you're probably grumpy, and if you're grumpy you're likely to take things too seriously and get defensive, so... counter it by being silly and happy. Whatever you do, never EVER join a music message board. That was the biggest mistake of my life. Not even I can smile there! :)

Don't mind me, just wanted to make sure this didn't slip under the radar....

Thank you, and please drive through...

Somewhat like Sammy Fisher and a few others , I see Will E. Worm as a sort of fantasy character that this fellow plays on the internet. While I'm sure that he actually harbors many of the sentiments that he expresses here, I doubt that he would ever utter these thoughts in public.

I was going to pose a question similar to the one in the OP a few days ago, but I forgot or lost interest or something. My question was, why is it that we tend to give so much attention to negative things/posts and ignore positive things/posts? It's easy to criticize the haters and the bigots, but it is us who load the trolls up with the attention that they crave, right? Just something that makes ya go, "hmmmm".

Just as others say, anonymity. But tbf there's plenty of karnts who behave like that in real life as well. So maybe it just shows the sad truth about people who normally hide it.

As you were told the first time you posted your whiny lament...

1. grow a thicker skin.
2. ignore what you don't like. Put the people you don't like on ignore, don't open their thread, don't read what they write. Ta Da! You don't see the things you find offensive.
3. go and find an internet forum that follows the rules you like. There are more than just a few out there. Don't expect FreeOnes to be altered to fit what you like. It just doesn't work like that.

Nothing has changed, not even your posts.

Quit whining, find somewhere you can Kumbayah with others, and be happy.

Just don't expect credit for saying dumb stuff; intentions count for nothing.

Thank you very much for taking your time and replying to my thread, but unfortunately you have failed.
This thread is not about the freeones board, but about the internet in general.
Please try again later.
(btw, I think you linked the wrong thing)
