Google+ is a ghost town, study says

Google’s emerging social network Google+ may boast big user numbers, but a new study suggests that social activity and user engagement are anything but impressive.

Intended to give Google a stronger grip on the massive amount of data shared by users on social networks, Google’s answer to Facebook opened its doors to the public last September. After using some user acquisition methods that seemed a bit desperate, Google revealed in December that Google+ was then home to 62 million users. Google+ boasted an impressive 100 million users as of early April, but according to eCommerce analytics firm RJ Metrics, the social network is not the waterfall of data Google hoped it would be.

Fast Company on Tuesday revealed the findings of an RJ Metrics study that analyzed data from a sample of 40,000 public Google+ accounts in an effort to determine just how successful the crown jewel in Google’s social network portfolio really is. According to the firm’s findings, Google+ is a ghost town.

i didn't know people used google+ at all...i've always thought it was just one of those mythical places that only ******** really believe in :dunno:

I had an account but cancelled it. I don't like the layout of the site. It feels like a mess

I read a similar article that said the average Google+ user is only on the site for like 15 - 30 mins a month, that's not too good

Then you better stay away from Youtube.

im pretty sure on the developers use google+

For years I avoided social networking sites. A few years ago I opened a My Space. Within 2 weeks I get a message from someone that I didn't want any contact with. I shut that **** down and never to socialize on a network publicly again. No Twitter, no Face Book, nothing. Sure places like this can share information with others. But the point is that no person really knows who I am and I don't really know who anybody else here is. If I want to find friends and make contact then I have a phone and E-Mail. That's it. If there was any interest in getting back with an old contact then it would have been done by now. I'm not that hard to track down if it is really that important.

That's the exact same way I feel, Bob. While I've been fascinated by forums since the old Compuserve days, the idea of offering up personal details about myself on a public network doesn't interest me in the least. And especially since I tend to shoot my mouth off a lot, with so many companies now monitoring what people say and who their "friends" are, I'd likely be fired within a heartbeat of joining Facebook or Google +.

I'm in the phone book. And I've had the same physical and email addresses for years. I'm not a paranoid hermit, but the way I see it, that's more than enough.

No I don't like I prefer FB

My original account got suspended because they didn't like some of the pics I posted on there...I think. They don't actually tell you which if fucking crazy caus then you don't know what to change! And I see hardcore shots being posted on there everyday as well....

Anyway, I gotta agree it does kinda suck. No one actually interacts on there. In fact it's pretty hard TO interact on there. I had over 25k followers (or whatever it is on there) and still no interaction. It's still pretty clunky as well I think, no smoothness to it like other social sites.

I tend to stick to Twitter now as Facebook hates the adult world as well!

Let me take this one step further. My toaster broke. I twit that I need a new toaster. Everybody in the fucking world is connected trying to get me a toaster.

I apply for a job. My resume is good. They find my twit and trace back and ask themselves,"What is with this toaster thing? Do we need to have someone working here that needs his toast so badly?"

Fuck that. Bad enough my searches turn up advertising for now with Google and my ISP. Read all of your sharing agreements before you enter any information. Don't hit that I Agree button till you are sure for sure for sure.

Briana, you are in a different situation. You are Briana the model and you are Briana the person. You may also be Briana the architect. Brina the ******. Who knows? Your life is your own. The point is that when you want to separate those 4 Brianas you have little choice but to separate them from themselves. Everything about you shouldn't be clumped into a heap through searches so the world can make judgements about you. Or me, or anyone else.

I **** this fucking sharing thing and don't tell me where to get a toaster.

No. Can't be bothered learning yet another social site.

Just stick with FB and get on with life. Besides, all my friends around the World are on Face Book :D
