Probably some old fool whom we've living somewhere in Asia who decided that he no longer wanted to be robbed by armed men & attacked them with his bare hands, more willing to die than loose his crops once again and accidently came to the conclusion that his attack (or defense or whatever) actually worked.

Either him or some unknown buddhist monk.

(I hope you can guess that I voted other)

bruce lee for sure if he didnt do what he did all the other martial arts would be dead and those martial artists below him would probally a side show/ working as a dish washer

I'm not a fan of Bruce Lee, in fact I am largley ignorant of his work, but somehow I find it equally as ignorant a statement to credit him with saving martials arts as a whole. You might as well say something along the lines of
"If richard pryor hadnt done stand up, the black man would be extinct"

I would of thought the Chan Man would be on the list. He's not my favourite, but hes up there with the greats.

When it comes to martial arts with a hint of comedy, he's the guy for the job.

But he learnt his trade along with another who went to the US in the end. Often unsung on his behind the camera work he does. Still works often on Jackie Chan's films. He was also the first man to throw a punch in the final fight scene in Enter the Dragon. As he too was a friend of Bruce Lee. Who am I talking about Sammo Hung Kam-Bo of course.

But anyone who's done martial arts will tell you Bruce Lee has to be the master. He even invented his own style of it. That is something no one thought possible for many years.

Bodhi Satva, the Budha....

Came to China from the general direction of India, and brought a new form of meditation and open hand combat; Chinese took to it, and later in Japan it found a home.

Of course, there are Brazilian styles of combat that found their own history
and origins there in Brazil. And other places have their own styles, developed from their own histories.

Martial Arts are ancient and never were in any danger of fading away; just like a popular breed of dog almost overnight gets bred to destruction, so has the whole Martial Arts thing here and around the world; where it has been changed to accomodate popularity

Bruce Lee, Chuck, Jackie and Billie...great Martial atheletes, but long away from Sensei.
The great Masters probably don't go to Hong Kong or Hollywood very often.:D

Any champion from the UFC or Pride.
