What I am trying to find out here is which one of them, as judged by what they have done so far in their careers, is going to be mentioned the most as one of the best basketball players of all-time.

Shaq has taken 3 different teams to the Finals and won with 2 different teams. Kobe is nothing more than the next "human highlight reel." He has to win a ring on his own.

Neither he nor Shaq will be mentioned in the "Greatest Ever" conversation because Jordan has 6 rings.

Shaq might be the greatest Center ever, but I think Will had more skill and Bill Russell was just the greatest champion ever in any American sport...

I like Shaq better. I lost respect for Kobe for backstabbing Shaq and for whatever shenanigans took place in Colorado...Kobe is just a baller in my book. Nothing more.

I think that Kobe is the better overall player. True, he's not as dominant as Shaq, but I think he's more of a team player.

Kobe's too full of himself...not to say that Shaq isn't, but I think Kobe's worse.

Not really a fair comparison - Shaq is in his twilight years and Kobe is in his prime. Plus they play different positions.

I agree that in the past Kobe has come across as vain, arrogant and self-centred (the episode with Shaq, the shennanigans in the off-season last year...), but this season I think he has finally matured into a true team player & leader and is better for it.

I suppose if the Lakers do go on to take the championship (which I'm hoping they will - GO LAKERS!!!), Kobe will have the edge on Shaq.

Attitude aside, even if they hit their primes at the same time, Kobe will be the more complete and thus the better basketball player. Now, if you consider attitude, Shaq will have the edge but Kobe still has the time to prove us wrong.

Shaq may have possibly been the most dominant big man in basketball history, but the fact remains that he couldn't shoot anything resembling a jump shot and that his career free throw percentage hovers around 50% at best. He's not even in the same caliber of game that Kobe has.

Different positions, different players, Kobe's game has the ability to control and change the outcome of basketball games. I don't feel Shaq's game could do that.

kobe is full of himself yes. shaq, i wouldnt say so much (but maybe i havent seen an interview where he shows it). however, these 2 arent really to be compared. too different.

however i will state how i feel about shaq. yeah, he's not so great at free throws. well, so arent a few other people in the nba. but what he does to a team as far as camaraderie, pulling the team together, and putting smiles on the teams faces is a very incredible and powerful trait. whos to say that this trait isnt as important as making a higher percentage of shots (free throws or not).

the bottom line is, he makes his team perform better. how can u possibly compare something like this to someone like kobe?

i will say though, phil jackson has really turned kobe into less of a douchebag, but i still cant stand him. i probably never will be able to. we can only hope he continues to learn sportsmanship from a great coach.

heres to the suns next season!

Those two players can't compare!
Center and guard, that is ridiculous.Neither of them is or will be "the greatest ever".
Jordan,Drexler,Magic,Jabbar,Erwing......and many more fantastic players are in front of those two clowns

I think Kobe has gotten more out of his talent than Shaquille has. Both are incredible, but if Shaq had been a little more motivated throughout his career, a little more hard-working, he might've squeezed a couple more quality years of b-ball out of his career, and maybe added 1-2 championships on top of the 4 he has now. But I think he has a way better personality than Kobe... that's for sure.

It's hard to compare these two because they play different positions and have completely different styles of play. However, I would say Shaq has definitely been the better player and achieved more throughout his career. I would also note that Kobe has yet to win a ring without Shaq, although that looks like it might change this season.

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
IMO they are both great players; but they are obviously completely different type of players; I think when it comes down to it its easier to come by a slasher/playmaker type player; than it is to find the most dominant center of the modern NBA era; shaq has taken 3 teams to the finals and won multiple championships on different teams; kobe has only won in LA with shaq; so until kobe wins his own championship without shaq can this be a legitimate contest!! shaq in his prime was the game; kobe isn't the game but he can control a game!! thats my 2 cents!!

In terms of technique and the way the game should be played in the eyes of the idealists then Kobe is the better of the 2. However for me Shaq is the more effective therefore better of the 2.

Kobe is the best in the biz, period!! :hatsoff:

KOBE still has 5 years left... Im a big time lakers fan and if it was not for Mr. Kobe in the 1st nba finals when shaq fouled his fat ass out who hit 3 clitch jumpers mj style vs the pacers it was kobe thats who...

I've seen almost every one of kobe's games and he is overall greater then shaq and as for greatest ever it will always be mike hell the highflying the baggy shorts that makes up the game today all mike yall... But history will tell just look at kobe's scoring numbers only wilt and jordan are better heck kobe has even pass such great scorers such as jerry west:bowdown: and elgin :bowdown:baylor also two great lakers...
