What Was / Is Your Dirty Job?

Have you ever had or do you have a Dirty Job?
You know, kind of like the ones that are shown in the show - Dirty Jobs.

Mine was working at a copper - moly mine about five years back.
It was dirty - black moly powder everywhere, cleaning "scrubbers" that filtered the
air from two huge roasters. That entailed getting in each level of the scrubbers and
jackhammering built up lime and removing it.
Dumping moly bags to be processed in the roaster.
I had to use Dawn dish soap to get the moly powder off.
Hard, nasty, dirty work.

ugh, I was a union butcher for some years.
everywhere i worked was a madhouse, serious turnover.
its cold, brutal, dangerous ,backbreaking work although it pays well.
I'll never do it again.

Years ago working at THE major theme park in Orlando, Fl. we were building a recycling conveyor right beside the compost yard. To make matters worse it was in the middle of summertime, anyone who has spent a summer in central Florida knows what I mean. The smell was terrible and there were flies everywhere!!! A lot of us took to wearing bandannas around our faces, looking like bandits to try to fight off the stink.

We ate our lunch in the back of an open air trailer.....and I swear the same 4 flies were there everyday to see what I brought them for lunch!! :1orglaugh The smell would get into your clothes, skin and into the hairs in ones nose. It took close to a month after completing that job that I didn't occasionally smell that stench at home every now and then. And the clothes I wore working there.....I burnt them!!!

great times, but damn hot, especially in the middle, ufff.

I work at a shipyard in our area. One of the job functions I have is to take radiation levels of tanks on the air craft carriers prior to another department going in to perform work. Some of the tanks aren't too bad, a little JP-5 (jet fuel) in the bottom, others however like the CHT tanks were places that human waste was sent. The tanks are relatively dry and we are given wet suits with air hoods but crawling down a 40 ft ladder that has dried waste and old tampons on it just ain't pretty.

This isn't going to sound that bad, but worked in a daycare one summer. In that summer, I got thrown up on, peed on, and had to clean toddler shit off a playground slide. Was pretty nasty!

In college I got a job at an electronics recycling plant. Not dirty in the sense that I had to deal with human waste or anything, but we dealt with exposed mercury, and pretty much every other hazardous part of electronics on a daily basis.

You're going to call BS, but I honestly once had a job at a chicken farm where I had to clean the barns. Doesn't sound so bad? This was for a farm of egg-laying chickens, and they were still in the cages. It was set up so their crap fell through the cage into the "basement" of the barn. So, I put on the rubber rain slicker and drove the tractor for about a 6 hour day, getting shit on the entire time.

I'm told it built character.

I was a manager for a few years during college at a restaurant that I started working at when I was 16. That's the only other job I've had apart from teaching.
