One of the older kids, Leslie, had one like that. His family had money, so Leslie had that one (a 5 speed?) with the small front wheel, and I think the one his younger brother had was a 3 speed stick, with the regular front wheel. We heard (as kids) that they outlawed the small front wheels (this would have been early to mid 70's), so Leslie was Mr. Big cause he had something that was "outlawed". I wonder if that was true or if he was just bullshitting us? He was a big liar about lots of things, so... :dunno:

The small front wheel wasn't "outlawed"; the stick-shifter on the frame was. It was deemed hazardous by the Consumer Products Safety Division; so Schwinn stopped making them in '74.

Leslie was bullshitting you.

My Penis Is Dancing!
For a while it would have been my Big Wheel, though the neighbors would have disagreed. Then it was my Crash Up Derby play cars...until I lost almost all of the pieces after crashing them so many times. Then came along my Hot Wheels and Thundershift 500. Then at 10, the baseball cards took over.

How many did you blow up with firecrackers?
We blew up everything with firecrackers! :glugglug:
We had tons of those too. My mother (bless her heart) cut up old sheets and made us some parachutes for those guys. We had to tie rocks to them in order to throw them up high enough for the chutes to open because they were too light otherwise. Some got hung up on the telephone wires. We thought that was KEWL!

Let me see if I can remember the cast of characters... there was the bazooka guy, a mortar guy, an upright rifleman (with M-14), a rifleman and a machine gunner (with tripod) both shooting prone (on their belly), a flame thrower guy, a land mine detector guy... who did I miss? ;)

What, no Rock em Sock em Robots? :dunno: :D

The hand grenade guy and in the older sets, the sergeant with the pistol waving them forward. Still, that's a pretty good recollection - better than I would have done.

By golly, I think we've covered all posts! :glugglug:

:ak47:

Also, remember there was a shitty quality brand and a better, more refined brand of army men? I do.

hard choice. my GI Joes, my micro machines, legos, hot wheels.

but im gonna have to go with legos. i still whip em out once in a while. they were always good for school projects too. no cotton balls, toothpicks and whatnot. easy building all the time
