The Founder with Michael Keaton as McDonald's "founder" Ray Kroc. It's an honest movie. Lots of familiar acting faces. Keaton was very good, but won't make the Oscar cut.
Speaking of the devil, here are my picks for Oscar 2017:
Best Picture: La La Land. Didn't see it. Don't want to. But it certainly fits the bill for what the Academy jerks off to.
Best Actor: Denzel Washington. Although Fences was a good film, DW's preformance was hardly Oscar-worthy. But the Academy wants to quell the negative press its gotten lately, so why not give it to a well-loved, experienced and Oscar-experienced veteran AA actor? I don't disagree with this move completely, and I love Denzel. But this scenario happened before. And if you think I'm wrong, look at the other nominees...draw your own conclusions.
Best Actress: Along the lines of the last entry, sorry Ruth Negga. Hard to take you too seriously after Preacher, despite your obvious talent. So the Oscar goes to Isabelle Huppert for Elle. Here we get a duel entry: a relative unknown AND a female-friendly plot.
Best Supporting Actor: Dev Patel for Lion. You see? We at the Academy are all about diversity! *ahem*
Best Supporting Actress: Octavia Spencer for Hidden Figures. THREE AA female nominees assuredly gets one the statue. In this case, it should. Great performance and a good film. Too bad that's not the Academy's motivation.
*--As far as the rest of the nominees, nobody cares...except for friends and family. I won't be watching because I don't care either. I just do these every year to make a point. I like movies. I like entertainment. But I don't like what it is underneath. If I ever saw Hollywood truthfully naked, it would be a scene even FreeOnes wouldn't show.
