i think i was De La Soul's "buhloone mindstate" on tape. i really don't remember it that well, so it could have been something else, i bought a lot of tapes(and still listen to them).
i know that the 1st CD i bought was stone temple pilots "core", which i sold a year later to a cd recyclery.
