Pretty straight forward question, what is your heat source for staving off the chill of winter? If you choose "Other" please elaborate. Doing the nasty with your favorite fuck buddy doesn't count.

A couple of years ago I switched from electric heat to gas fireplaces and haven't looked back. I would love to convert an old wood stove to burn natural gas but I don't have time for a project like that. This thread was inspired by cold feet prompting me to turn up the fire.

My apartment is 2nd floor. Garden apartments built in the 50's with hot water heat. I have a thermostat that I believe is only there for decoration or make people believe that they can control heat. I can set it to 90 or 50 and it makes no difference. The landlord fires it up when they have to and the pipes will always be warm. The venting is so thick with lead paint that I can't move them more than an inch. Always warm and I use my windows to control temperature comfort. Heat is included in my rent. I moved from a 2 BR to a smaller 1 BR both on 2nd floor in the same complex and there is no difference. The 2 BR did have a cold 2nd BR but keeping the door open was enough to maintain heat.

You might think less of me, but tuff shit. In my apartment, I pay an electric bill, and the heat/AC is electric. But the hot water heater and my stove/oven run on gas, which I don't pay for. Mama may have raised a fool but not an idiot. Anytime I get cold I pop the oven to 500, wait a few and open the door. Works like a fuckin' charm.

Are you talking about radiators, bob? I've only seen those on tv, they must get really hot to heat up the whole place like that.

When I was using electric heat my electric bill would skyrocket in the winter, and the heat really wasn't that effective. Switching to natural gas my heating bills are less than half what they were and the heat is actually hot. I have no problem maintaining 80° throughout the house even when it's below freezing outside. If it gets cold in the kitchen I turn on two of the burners on the stove top and in no time the chill is gone, I don't blame you for using the oven for a heater, especially if you're not having to pay for it.

My home is heated by the constant flame wars in which I partake.

No better way to keep the home fires burning than with a constant influx of Internet flames through your firewire, good stuff and on the cheap too, you may claim to be indifferent to global warming but you're doing your part.

The tormented souls of tortured children.

Do you really get a good bang for your buck? Probably, I was thinking the prison system in the United States could contract out inmate souls but after I thought about that for a moment I realized, what the fuck, there are way more children in this country than inmates, definitely +1 on your part.

None of your god damn business!

Ah, well, thanks for playing anyway, I thought I might trick you into revealing your secret source of free warmth but apparently you were on to me before I was. Well played, sir.

We make love!

NO, no no, not together you understand. On our own.

See, that was a clever skirting of the caveat I put up there about favorite fuck buddies not counting, I didn't say anything about solo self-abuse, another well played move!

You guys are really on top of your game.

Well shit. Efficient energy is a cost saver in the long run. Who doesn't want to get forty MPH or get some kind of rebate for being cheap?

Laptop helps keeping my hands warm during the winter. I can always clog the laptop vents and open some high CPU/GPU demanding processes on the background to increase temperature to keep my hands warm when weather outside gets under -20 C. This can be also very helpful before starting to watch porn to prevent cold handed masturbation... Continuously re-charging my dumbphones keeps the adapters and phones warm to add comforting warmth to rooms.
:suspicious:

I also have my electric kettle on a heavy use at times, which leaks warmth to the house and turning lights on also helps bringing some extra comfort heating. Cooking something in the oven has been also proven as pretty efficient way to bring some warmth inside. Then I of course have this refrigerator/freezer combination where compensator builds up heat inside that little cupboard above the refrigerator. Opening the door of that cupboard can be used to temporarily bring in some extra heat inside to house when warmth spreads over the room. Oh, and that vacuum cleaner will make you sweat in no time by just standing nearby when it's turned on. Downside is that huge noise makes this method pretty unfavorable for heating.
;)

Then I also have window blinds, which can be used to control and reflect the sunbeam when used properly, to bring in some natural warmth to keep the room warm. My own body warmth also helps keeping me warm when I sit on my computer chair, warmth from my butt enters to the chair and then further keeps my ass warm by reflecting that warmth back to my arse. That's the way to put all the idle energy from sitting to the use for maximum effect.

Then last, but not the least. The very mighty sauna stove will keep sauna and even shower room warm if door is kept open. Hot water from the shower can also warm the air momentarily inside the bathroom for add some extra comfort heating besides bathroom lights...
