Why wasn't Woody Allen there to pick up his Cecil B. Demille award?

Woody Allen has mentioned in the past he never goes to award shows because he feels award shows are pointless. He did show up at the 2001-02 Oscars because of the events that surrounded 9/11. Allen was trying to encourage Hollywood filmmakers to go out and make films in New York City. Allen then showed a montage of American movies that were shot and filmed in New York City as tribute to the Academy.

True Detectives, a HBO series which stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

This is the first episode but it has such an irie vibe and well developed characters, I will keep watching for now.
