Chilli (the thicker sort) dumped onto nachos I understand, or tortilla chips to dip in, I understand. Random crackers floating around in a meal you eat with a spoon, I don't.

But then, I find chilli con carne served without rice as weird as I would having bolognaise without spaghetti, or a curry without.... err, rice.

Yeah, I don't get the random crackers floating around either. Most of the times I've seen or used crackers with chili, if not to thicken it to a consistency preferred by the diner, it's been to like help scrape up the last that you need something to push against with your spoon or just eaten along with, as the bread. But I've also seen crackers used as a serving device for a dollop of chili, like an hors d'oeuvre.
