Were/Are The Beatles Overrated?

This is a PERFECT example of how horribly overrated the Beatles were.
The legendary Oasis took a simple, shit song and made it EPIC!
Like Liam says @ the beginning...."It doesn't matter if it's outta tune John or Paul!"
I have spoken! :hammer:

Oasis -- Legendary?? Haha don't make me laugh. Their only claim to fame is having Zak Starkey in the band at one point in time.

This Oasis version sucks :baconsalt:

Now what we have below is cool  ....

I have spoken. :)

Not necessarily overrated. As others have posted, they had a different style of music from others during that period. As far as songwriting, when you can take a song, change it to fit a different genre of music and it's still a hit; you are excelllent songwriters.(IMHO)

The Mop Tops are so overated it's outrageous. They are the ORIGINAL boy band, the first of its kind. If they had debuted today, they would be like New Kids on the Block or N Sync. Famous for 15 seconds before turning into pop culture punchline. But because they came out in the 60s (and no one had heard their kind of schtick before), they are treated liked pioneers (which I suppose they were) of amazing music. IMO, their songs/lyrics are trite, banal, even elementary/simplistic. John Lennon, however, was a genius and was right to strike out on his own. The other three members ... meh at best. Give me the Stones anytime. :banger:

While I like them a lot and think they have probably four (give or take) of the top 10 greatest songs ever ('Hey Jude' 'Yesterday' 'Imagine' 'Let it Be,' among many others) without going into details of why, I do think they are sort of overrated.

Imagine was Lennon, not Beatles.

Duh. Don't think I know that? Fact is he IS Beatles. McCartney wrote 'Yesterday' by himself, just used the band to play it. I frankly think it is a Beatles song and that's the way I classify it. I don't really split hairs on shit like that.

Their music is overrated. Their contribution to music isn't praised enough and will never be.
Sad thing is a lot of Beatles fans these days aren't real fans. They're just posers.

So when Ringo plays with Carl Perkins it is really the Beatles?
The Beatles have recorded many good songs, and yet you can only come up with three.

How can you say that they are overrated, when over 40 years after they broke up, they can still carry debates like this?

You may or may not like their music, but the impact that they had on their own generation was immeasurable.
No other band hit the states from the UK in the way that they did or have done since.
Their music changed style from year to year as they grew up and then apart - compare "8 Days a Week" with "A Day in a Life", "Elenor Rigby" all part of an overall progress.
